what caused the problem? After all the labour, effort and testing they found a CANBUS block that had 2 dry joints

A poor soldering fault that should've been picked up by Valeo. Not a design quality concern.

electrical it twas, big surprise. water ingress, not much surprise there either,that really ought to be impossible given the low level positioning of wiring , electronics, not great design that.

Do you ever post anything positive? Or even anything that does not include a pop at someone?
OP has had a hard time with his car, and then there is you going yup, expected that etc.
In an ideal world there will be no problems with anything. Bad design is within every car, no matter what.

To be fair Andy was quite correct. Its unsurprising the issue was electrical - its almost always the way these days. In this case the issue was poor assembly not design (unless the design lends itself to generating dry joints through vibration).

filipov..... that not any kind of pop at OP. just a pop at poor design, of which he has been unlucky enough to become a victim , and unfortunatly most of modern car dramas Do seem to turn out electrical or tech related i cant see any reason for applauding that. and plse provide a quote where i have actually had a pop at someone on this forum....DID i say bad design was only related to benz, or for that matter any specific car. what i do say is basically i am concerned with benz poor design when its seen, this is because i drive a few of them .which in itself would seem to imply that whilst i often express displeasure at some features of benz ,i do infact still prefer to drive them. which is about it.

I had no choice but to persevere - if I hadn’t fixed it I’d of had a £25k car stuck dead on my drive. The only way I was going to get a result was to stick at it all the way. Not ideal but I wasn’t letting that kind of money sip down the drain. The repair bill could have been thousands more if I’d not been reasonable with the dealership and let them repair it slow time. The car is 10 years old but low mileage and has a good service history but things go wrong - that life. If you want a car like this and trouble free motoring then you have to buy new and these things are seriously expensive right? £100k car will always have £100k car running costs, goes with the territory.....

Dry joint on a canbus plug is a ****er though.....no wonder it took hours to find it.....

Wow, just read through your epic journey! So glad you finally got it sorted, but that sure is some perseverance! I would have crushed it someway somehow by now, but fair play to you.
