yeah i'm well down on that with 12.1v from cold. My battery is in it's 11th year from new so i can't complain too much..

I’ve batteries older than that working well (touch wood), I use battery conditioners on all of mine when they’re not in daily use, and that keeps them happy. Some of mine sit for many months unfortunately, but always start first turn when I get them back out.

it's a strange one because we've had the w246 from new and it's been brilliant and reliable, just recently a couple of things have come up and i live very near Crystal palace and the hill is very steep, that's when i noticed that the brake hold function stopped working, other than that, the car starts 1st time and seems to drive well.

Have you checked the state of the battery the car ECU will start to shutdown non essential services if it’s under voltage it should be 12.6V or thereabouts to be healthy

I can confirm that a battery replacement has cured the brake hold function failure. Once again thanks to everyone who replied. This space is a god send.

My car has to remain on the street without access to mains power - so I wonder if there's a solution to charge the battery somehow - a power pack charger or something - but guess the answer's 'no' !

You can get solar chargers - I have a 5W one which I've used when I had to street park - the output is very small but it does make a difference - just don't plug it into your OBDII port - find a permanent live or wire it directly to the battery
