Hi

I've been looking to get a C-Class Estate (I know, not the most exciting) as a family car.
Have driven the Sport model and really liked the comfort of it.

I have a dealer who can get me a fantastic deal on an AMG model making it cheaper than the Sport model - however I can't easily test drive one.

Question is - what's people's thoughts on AMG vs Sport? Will I lose a lot of the comfort with the sport suspension etc?

Thanks

Martin

Do you mean an actual AMG car, i.e C63AMG, or AMG-line trim level?

Sorry should have specified - it would be a C220d AMG with Premium Pack

Depends on what you like. I'm not a fan of overly-hard suspension and I find even my Elegance can take corners as fast as I care to take them without any fuss, and it soaks up bumps very nicely.

It has 16 inch wheels and I am vaguely interested in putting 17s on, more for the look than for any cornering improvement I might get with lower profile wheels.

I've been in a Sport and it's not too hard, but harder than my Elegance.

I definitely want comfort - i wasn't even considering the AMG line previously due to my worry the ride would be too hard but the deal is good enough to make me question myself

If you are looking for comfort you need to try the SE and Sport and forget about the AMG, the offer on the AMG Line sounds good but it will be a harder ride

I have an E220 AMG Line and I love the styling, plus the ride and handling is really, really good. Go for it- in your position I would.

Better spec on the AMG premium line. Sport and SE are....less exciting...

I would go for it..
I'd do this. If you find it too hard you can swap to 17s or change springs and still be around the same price as a Sport.
To spec up the Sport on the other hand makes it even more pricey so it becomes a no brainer really?

Yeah ok - can I also ask here then since you guys are much more knowledgable than me.
Trading in my old 09 diesel with 101k miles on clock as part of scrappage scheme - no other deposit from me apart from that gets the AMG line Premium Auto with metallic paint on a 48 month PCP is coming in at £366 a month. Good deal or not?

Scrappage on an 09 plate car? What value are they assigning to it?

WTF? Why scrap the car? Sell it... the scrappage scheme is aimed at Euro IV and earlier. Yours is Euro V.

It's that choice, get a lower value on a trade-in but it's easy and makes the buying/leasing process so much simpler, or get more for selling private but have to deal with tyre kickers and being in at the evening for buyers and all the other hassle.

Your deal sounds good though, 366 for a top spec.

Weird, estates seem cheaper than saloons at the moment.
