car handle broke

my rear door handle broke yesterday. last year got the front one repaired and now its the rear. please malcom is there any chance if you can send the guide. my door wont open at all

Hi.

2009 C Class has suffered the dreaded passenger door problem and only opens from the outside. I am sure someone may have posted this before (I have just signed up) but I will relay the following details just in case.

An American company called AGA do a repair kit for this, £69 for the part but £37 for the shipping. There is one on ebay from another source at the moment. It is a brilliant long term fix and it saves hundreds on a new panel. The owner/inventor has an excellent tutorial on youtube which is worth viewing. Type in AGA inside door lever panel repair kit. Glue type repairs are possible but could well come adrift again at any time. I contacted AGA direct and their only agent in Europe is in Denmark, www.agatools.eu who are no cheaper unfortunately regarding postage. Part number is AGA-MB-DLK-204. I cannot for the life of me figure out how something so small can cost so much in shipping. If you have a relative/friend in the USA it would be interesting to know the real charges for this.

As mentioned above, if you type in AGA inside door panel repair kit on youTube you will get the full demo on how to fit this excellent soloution. Expensive but a quarter of the cost of a new panel which will never match the rest. I sold the car on and now both front and back passenger side door handles have gone. It really is a common fault and disgraceful of Mercedes to offer no help on older cars.

Thanks oldjohnny. It does look like a good solution and the instruction video looks straightforward, but I'm balking at the price. The kit itself costs $69 but shipping to the UK is $117! So in total around £144 for a small packet of components that probably weighs no more than 200g. I'm going to ask a friend in the US to check shipping costs for me, but it should be far less than the insane charges AGA quote. I agree with you totally, this kind of nonsense is disgraceful on a Mercedes, its supposed to be a marque of quality.

On ebay at the moment there is a kit for sale at $137.47 dollars all in which is approx £105 sterling if that helps.
I would be really interested to hear what you can get the postage for from your friend. I think the problem is the mad tariffs involved as well.

I'm pretty sure it would be easy to make something up using U channel aluminium, a bolt, nyloc nut and penny washers...
Just cut the U channel and bend it to shape to get the angle then adjust using a cut off disc on a Dremel to get any necessary clearance.

Before I sold the car my spannerman drilled just behind the broken piece and attached a really strong cable tie to it and the door panel somehow.. Worked spot on but the fitting on the back door was slightly different and it was not possible to do it there.

The clamp that holds the outer sheath of the door handle cable has broken away from the door card, mercedes say a new door card at £400,,, the fix is to bond something to the back side of the cad that will allow the cable clamp to be fixed to the card, it should be easy enough to come up with a fix.

OMG, so sorry to hear that i greatly appreciate the response, am so so grateful. This morning my wife opened the driver side door and it just snapped, and a few months ago my son did the same to the rear.. Merc in South Africa want 17500ZAR
