Hey guys, this is my first post on here and I hope i'll be able to get some help or advice.

I've got a C180 K (56 Reg) and every so often, whether the car is cold or warm, when trying to start the engine it keeps ticking and doesnt start immediately. After a few attempts the engine starts, the rpm revs up to 40 then goes down below 10 as the car shakes and switches off, as if its suffocating.

I've replaced the air mass sensor, fuel filter, had my fuel pump tested and is in good condition, also had a diagnostic test with no faults, so I'm running out of options here and would really appreciate it if anyone could suggest what the problem is.

Many Thanks

Ok and welcome.

Your fault is the starter ring is too dry, it gives false information to the CPS and the starting is terminated too soon.

You need to spray some lubricant on the starter ring and all will be just fine :D

Good advice, I feel that when the ring is too dry it can chafe. Always keep your ring lubricated like TV said.

Hi
How does one gain access to this starter ring, assuming the CPS stands in this instance for the Crankshaft Position Sensor ?

I believe there is an oil drain hole in the bottom of the bell housing, with the engine running you could spray some PTFE in and that should fix it
