C200cdi cut dead at 70mph

06 W203...After driving for 2hrs at 70mph on the motorway the car died suddenly, engine cut out lights went on to side light... 10 seconds later it all came back..I’m not happy driving it now! Anyone heard of this happening?

Sounds like a bad EIS at a guess but it will need Star to be sure.

Mine did similar when the crank sensor was on it's way out.

I don't think the crank sensor will drop the headlights out though. That smacks more of the key being turned off or the car thinking it was.

Sure Lostkiwi's right, but a question:
On the 203's would the headlights automatically turn off if key was not recognised?

My 203 will cut the headlights if Auto is enabled and the lights are On when the key is removed.
Presumably it will do the same if the car "thinks" that the key has been removed.

Do you have a big bunch of keys? Could the weight of keys have turned off the ignition (or made it possible to knock them)?
