Hi Guys.
I have a C220 CDI 2001 Auto (W203).
I have a constant sign that is on that is warning me of a problem with the ESP. What can Cause this?

I am not sure if this is related but the Hazard light sign is always flashing as well.

Any assitance is much appreciated thanks.

Hi Craze, the sensor mentioned is expensive, especially as a guess!

There are a great many things that might be causing this error warning, I suggest you start with a fault code read out at the very least, ideally with further testing if needed.

One question though, are all the tyres the same sizes, and all inflated correctly?

Hi Alex, thanks for the response.

How would i get the fault code?

I know the front tyres lose air slowly, but i keep them inflated. This warning never goes out. And ye s they are all exactly the same size.

......How would i get the fault code?....

It needs to be connected to a special computer, the STAR machine would be best, and often reffered to on here.
A good garage will charge very little just to check the codes.

Ok quick update.

Today i thought i would challenge the issue.
The sensor wasnt under the seat, so i read around a little.

Apparently its under a black cover at the far end of the tyre well.

I took out what i believe are two sensors, one is a Yaw Sensor, and Lateral Accelaration Sensor.

I took some pics, Started the car with them out. Then put them back in. The ESP warning has gone, also the Hazard light switch doesnt flash no more.

I havent actually driven the car yet.

After some reading on http://www.aa1car.com/library/stability_control.htm

I realised there is a steering angle sensor. The problem is my steering wheel is always at a slight angle.. i hope this doesnt cause issues.

if the steering wheel is out it will upset the steering angle sensor which will put the light on, have the wheel allignment set. then turn steering lock to lock to reset the sensor, if the light still will not go out the fault may need cleared on diagnosic machine.

I have driven the car for about 10 miles in all after doing the bits.. it seems to be holding up. :D

Will the steering wheel being slightly tilted (the previous owner had it set at a funny angle because of the way he rests his arm) affect it?
.

Lol no seriously, i have had the car about 2 years.

It was a close friends late fathers car. He was quite a big gentlemen.
So would rest his arm on the window, and lazily hold the steering at an angle.

I even took it to the garage where it has always got serviced, and they confirmed he had it like that. And i never got it sorted.

Saying that is it easy to do? might correct it my self.

Hey Guys.
Ok so the ESP problem fixed.. no more ESP.
The hazard light button.. started flashing again. But i not worried about that for a moment.

But i do have a new problem.

For the last few week (since before the ESP thing) i noticed the engine not having that kick it usually does.
I put it in Neutral and it wouldn't go over about 3000 revs.
Today i really felt it going up the M62.
It took ages getting to speed up hill.

Anyways i have opened a new thread (i wasnt sure if its related).

I dont think this is the fix for all. But i removed the sensors from behind the rear seats. Started the car. Turned it off. Re connected them. The problem seems to have resolved.
