C270 oil dipstick

Hi all,

Just traded in my 2002 C180 estate, for a 2002 C270 estate, & last night thought I’d check the oil level on my new toy, & the quest began, after spending the best part of a hour trying to find the oil dipstick, I realised the only dipstick found in this whole operation was about 6ft tall, holding a torch, looking for something in the dark & cold that’s not there!

My question is has anyone else brought a dipstick to measure the oil level? & if so what type, as eBay has many, many different ones at various prices!!

Any help would be great

I found one for my 220CDi in a scrappy. Cost me a pound! I believe the same one fits the 270CDi.

I had a 2001 c270 for a few years, never bothered as the dashboard display will tell you the oil level - I think it's level ground, engine off then ignition on but engine not started. Low oil level also comes up on the dash if it happens. Not sure about the check procedure as I sold the 270 5 years ago, but it's probably somewhere in the owners manual.

you can make your own out of a net curtain rail ... that white spring thing.
on the web somewhere is the measurements for the marks from the bottom of the sump to give you min and max. use 2 tieraps for the top and Robert is your dad's brother
Had mine 6 years works fine and the computer has given me the reading once.....

The oil level sensor on these cars can give totally false information. The only way to be 100% certain is to use a dipstick as they don't lie.

Many thanks for all the reply’s. I’ve ordered the dipstick on the link, will have a look on google to see what the measurements should be.
