Looking to buy.
Hey, thinking of buying a W221 S350 Diesel and was wondering if it would be able to run on vegetable oil due to high gas prices where I live.

Any help?

No. And I wouldn't even try biodiesel, either (DPF).
Diesels are far too complex now.

They’re fine to run on a 50-50 petro/ biodiesel mix without any worries. I would advise against SVO (Straight Veg Oil) though.

All German diesel cars were mandated to be able to run on 95% biodiesel from 2002 onwards.

I wouldn't run any diesel engine on vegetable oil. Chances are that you'll end up with a premature rebuild due to gumming of rings and premature injector failure.

Isn't the common rail direct injection the problem?

All the rubber hoses will dissolve too- they’re generally made of an NBR/SBR blend which cannot withstand the esterified veg oil sadly

Biodiesel does not equal Veg oil
I wouldn't run a Common rail on Veg oil (waste or straight).
I would run an older common rail on GOOD biodiesel, but only an older one, ones with DPF's etc, not so much.

True, they start to 'sweat' and feel sticky. Can take quite a while, though..

My 613 did 30K on bio fine, slightly down on power (as we know)

Now CDIs like this and the 611 are so cheap, a few folk are running them on 'blends'.
(that's svo or wvo mixed with petrol, aimed at aping diesel's viscosity)

Are they running high blends of petrol? I'm sure the 613 would be good on bio, so you just proved it!

I used to run 5% petrol with 95%wvo in the 606, ran really well!

Are you sure John? I have a feeling that German cars moved to a silicone derivative.

I think now a silicone or Viton derivatives Craig but in 221 days I’m reasonably certain it was old stylee

606, yes, all day long...

I know of a 642 being run on wvo, 50/50.
It won't end well, I predict.

Although they're not worth much now, c.f. the fuel saving of say 6 months ... destroying them is not for me.
