Can someone tell me what makes this a Limited Edition?

I saw the below listing which describes the car as a Limited Edition but I'm assuming at the time anyone could have ordered an AMG body kit and a set of wheels that don't strike me as genuine AMG? Nearly £11,000 and no hard top of any description let alone a panoramic roof seems like stretching it. :)

I can't see the point in the AMG line or special editions. It's either an AMG that you pay the big bucks for or just another Mercedes off the production line with different wheels, etc. That goes for every make of car. A Ford Focus is still a Ford Focus when it has an extra stripe or luxury cup holders.

I suppose that holds true for most cars except the A Class which appears not to be a Mercedes at all.

Just another Mercedes off the production line with what I would say has those options ordered by the buyer when new.
Our SL500 was ordered with AMG wheels as it is on the build sheet, however it doesn't make it a limited edition......What makes it a 'limited edition' is the AMG badge that someone stuck on the boot lid :D

The point is simple.............

MORE PROFIT. Mercedes exists to return a profit to its investors. That’s it. That it does it by making cars is almost secondary.

The A Class is very obviously an MB. What would make you think otherwise?

Making cars is secondary, the prime objective is making money, they make cars etc to make money

Of course. The fact is that most carmakers that operate their own finance arms make more profit (vastly more) from the finance than they ever could from the lumps of metal and plastic they build for people. The cars literally are of secondary or even tertiary concern in this regard, save for being the means by which profit is generated.

MB should drop the AMG tag on non AMG cars and just call them a Sport or something. Using AMG to desribe a trim level is diluting the AMG brand in my opinion.
Agreed.
AMG used to mean something very special. Now it just means a trim package.

Guess they have to compete with the other brands who also dilute their own ‘racing premium’ brands..
Audi RS and S models......’S-Line’
BMW M models .....’M sport’
The only difference being AMG existed in their own right before Mercedes tied up, so it seems worse than the Audi/BMW dilution somehow.
As an AMG owner I can’t say it concerns me wholly..until people put AMG badges on, then I become a fully paid member of the ‘AMG police’, not apologising for that though!!

Does the A Class not have a Renault petrol engine? Did I not hear that it was based on the Renault Megane chassis with Mercedes Panels and Interior? A recent article in the motoring press that said if you have a diesel A Class, then at least you get a Mercedes manufactured engine.

Looks like a (maybe?) somewhat dodgy dreamer...
He has a complete used SL front end for sale too?

The current A Class does use the Renault K9K engine- only those cars marked as the A160 CDI. NB diesel only. These account for 5.7% of sales. The article you read was therefore factually incorrect.

Everything else use MB engines.

The platform is totally Merc. No Nissan-Renault-Daimler Alliance parts in it at all. However, Merc do sell the platform to other elements of the Alliance to use (Infiniti Q30).

it still looks like an Astra from the side, a little too much for my liking!

At least it gets a better engine than that truly shocking 1.4 object in the Astra!
