I have just acquired an SLK230 Kompressor automatic (1999) and although it runs really well, I cannot get the key out when I stop and turn everything off. I've checked it is in "Park", that the handbrake is on & the lights turned off; I have wiggled the steering wheel in case it has a "lock" feature and I have wiggled the key but it just won't come out of the ignition. Could it be a sensor problem so that the ignition doesn't recognise that everything is closed down? I'm not the slightest bit mechanical so any clues why this is happening would be hugely appreciated!

Take the gearbox out of park and put it back in park and try again ?

Sounds like the interlock cable to the ignition switch isnt working correctly. This senses that the car is in P and allows the key to be withdrawn.

Thanks, Graham. I'm going to investigate this (or rather, I'm going to get some-one more tech-savvy to do so!)
