Good morning

I don't want to spoil it for anyone that hasn't watched it yet but did anyone that has watched it think like me that there was something odd about it?

I have watched every car since the programme started but think this one was out there on its own,not for a good reason either

Wonder if its just me?

Thanks

Paul

Just watched it this morning and agree it was a little "different" to the previous epispdes.

Not taking anything away from the recipient of the car but there seems to have been more deserving cases in previous episodes, the family looked as if they were in a possible position to afford to get at least some of the work done by themselves over time.

As with a lot of car programs now they seem to have taken their eye off the ball and are messing with the format that made them entertaining to car enthusiasts , there is now too much "waffle" and not enough "car" , same as WD and some of the Yank stuff.

Both the Pergoda episode and this one annoyed me. The premise of the show was about restoring classics for deserving cases that could not do the work (or afford to pay someone) themselves. These last two - including several months (if true) of restoring that basket case of an SL and basically handing back a £100,000 plus car in both cases seems unreasonable as in both cases the recipients seemed pretty well off. Now you never know people's financial circumstances but they did not strike me as people who would struggle to find a bob or two.

Yes, nice, interesting cars, but not as deserving (IMHO) than some of the previous recipients, for me, that was one of the main draws of the show. When i see them draw up to a huge house with big, manicured gardens with expensive cars in the drive you just see them as tight gits wanting a freebie.

And as for that Pergoda disappearing for several months without the owner noticing...... can't have been that close to it or worried about it that much.

They always claim that it takes just a few weeks, not months to complete the restoration. But the amount of work that was needed on the Pagoda for example was pretty much impossible !!

Yes, this was the exception where they specifically said it took months (rather than the contrived 3 weeks they normally claim) - apart from the old Austin? They did in a week (the oily rag one)

Their week may be a culmination of say 10 or 20 guys hours put into a project, including the production and film crew.

I was thinking contrived more in the way of it being a fake deadline rather than based on any reality. Oh what a surprise, your husband/father/wife/mother etc will be back in three weeks.
Especially when you see cars from other episodes in bits in the background.
Don't get me wrong, I love the show and can even warm to Tim's antics (but not always) - it would be interesting to see other deadlines, though I accept it adds to the suspense and entertainment for the masses.

Plus really glad to see workshop Phil back (even though not fully recovered) - was worried he might be a goner, although be has stopped posting on the Practical Classics forums.

I'm losing interest in all these programmes now as they are moving away from the "how to" element which I used to really enjoy, when WD did the horrendously rusty Amphicar they were not afraid to go into huge detail showing how Ed made paper templates, bought special tools off the internet to make his own panels etc, they spent about 5 minutes showing how to make one small replacement panel from scratch. By contrast Car SOS had a similarly rusty Pergoda which was "magically" transformed from an absolute basket case into a gleaming new shell in around 2 minutes.
Now its all about the "big reveal" and a stupid manufactured deadline which quite frankly I cant be arsed with. same thing happened to American Chopper.
Shame....

It does make you wonder how popular the car shows like this would be without the drama and the human condition aspects. Fuzz on his own doing up a car would likely not get the same viewing figures unfortunately (although I would watch it), but I agree it has gone too far to the "entertainment" side, not enough of the doing side.

It's a sure thing that some of their crises are choreographed !
