Hi all
How many miles roughly should I see out of a set of pads and disks. Mines coming up for 25,000 miles now year old in a few weeks and I'm just starting to get odd brake squeal when braking from around 30mph or less. Not always just odd occasions.

Cheers
Gary

Obviously very dependant on how you drive. In my personal opinion I would have thought 25000 pads and 40000 discs if you cane it; perhaps 40000 pads and 70000 discs if you're gentle.
Short trips and standing will greatly reduce the life of pads and discs because of rust spotting on the disc which is very abrasive when you set off. This shouldn't affect you at 25000 in 12 months. Possibly squealing due to dust build up?

2002 SL500, 216 CL500, all fully loaded
As Davids post above, the quelling is no indication of wear.

By removing a wheel you can see how much pad life you have got, and the lip on the edge of the disc will show how much wear on the disc has taken place

how far?

I had covered > 60000 on the original discs and pads, still had over 50 % pad left at 57000 at its last service before sale on my c sport. Did lots of M way though!

I am certain drying the discs after washing the car helped.

Thanks all. The car is booked in for next week for the coolant issue but they'll check brakes as well. The pads look not too bad from what I can see - havent removed wheels but I cant see studs on metal yet :)

well over 3 years and 100,000 miles on my set of pads, front and rear, on my C220 cdi sport, still plenty of thickness left. But much M way driving too!
