hi all!!

Been thinking about chipping my E270, I feel like there is more to give out the engine it’s a solid old lump and I just feel like it can do more!!
Does anyone have any recommendations on where to go? I don’t want ludicrous power just a little bit more, anyone have any good companies they have used in the past??

Hi Adam, I used to have a 2003 c270 cdi ( 170) . I fitted a plug n play chip box from DTUK, fitted in 10 mins , just plugs onto the common rail sensor and away you go, works fine , loads more torque, car feels much more lively,( still got it if your interested ..!? )

When my dad had a c270cdi he fitted a “drake box” that had 10 power settings which was as previously mentioned plug and play into the rail sensor. Although on setting 10 it put the car into limp mode it was so powerful

Sounds interesting, what sort of increase do you get? As in can you really feel it? How much would you charge me for it??

Yeah, just be aware that if you use it anywhere past 5 for a considerable amount of time and drive it hard it will bin the torque converter and the rest of the gearbox will overheat sometimes. My dad drive his 70k on one of those chips and it binned the box and torque converter after a set of injectors. Lol

cant remember the figures exactly Adam, it was quite some time ago, but I think they claimed about + 35 bhp and around 500mn torque.....however, yes you can really tell the difference. It is adjustable via a small screw inside ( not switchable maps like the more modern) cost me £190 , how about £40 on approval..? if u like pay me , if u don't , just send it back . ?? BTW the claims regarding better mpg are bull, it confuses your trip computer.... basically they work by just throwing more fuel in.., where else does the power come from ..!

Yeah I did wonder how it increased MPG!! And £40 is great but I’ll have to wait until after my MOT first (just in case it doesn’t pass for some silly reason) I can get back to you on it though? My mot is Saturday coming up so it’ll be anytime after that if that’s okay?

You could always fit a rubber crankshaft, as everyone knows, builds up the compression ratio as the revs. increase.

Personally I wouldn't touch a box as you can tell from above they just fool the ecu into dumping more fuel into the rail, have it mapped, I did with my 270, end result was 225bhp and about 100( maybe a few over 100) tourques. Ran the car with that map for 100k and not a single problem with injectors, rail, pump, torque converter or anything mechanical related.

had the box on the motor for 8 years matty with no probs, beauty of the box , it can b removed in 5 mins, does the pretty much the same job. The more modern units are much more intuitive, reading fuel pressure, boost press, n rpm, with switchable maps, is there a real difference in the box shoving more fuel in or the ecu ..?

MSL's box plugs into about 8 different places John so very different to the above box, kind of a generic map from MSL in a box

Some don't have issues but I still personally wouldn't touch a box, and yes massive amount of difference between what a proper map does compared to a box that fools the ECU

Maybe as they work with so many MB they know how to do this correctly and properly? If they would put that name behind it I would trust it, but not as much as if it was on the dyno. Don't know why, I know nothing about mapping etc.

I cannot find any details of a DIY box from their web site.

They are a reseller for RaceChip tuning. I'm waiting for a price. Still not 100% convinced, but we'll see.

What they did was take a Brabus box and take it to bits from a physical perspective and then a diagnostic perspective and pretty much backwards engineered them, used there own map in it so slightly more tweaked over a Brabus map but still very safe.
Think it was big Chris that ran it as a test on his CLS63 SB (bi turbo) for about a year during development and I know Acid used it on his previous C63 and an A45 before he modified them further
