I know I have not been here very long but i have done quite a lot of reading through old threads etc

I can see that chrome is a highly debatable topic one of which i thought would be fun

Now as a 1st time buyer of a Mercedes being my 1998 W208 CLK 3.2 in Brilliant Silver which is in remarkable condition inside and out for a 20 year old car , i am quite keen to make it very much my own

my main job which is completed was to put in the Android Double Din Stereo all singing and dancing and works lovely.

now to focus on it being individual to me

with regards to chrome mine came with the Chrome Wheel Arch Covers and as we all know they are normally put on to hide rust etc . which when buying the car the seller stated that he had put these on to tidy up the car due to paint bubbles etc

    which clearly did the job

now i know many are against the chrome look so i ask you this

My car is for fun and my enjoyment i also own a 2004 Mitsubishi Shogun 3.5 Auto rarely use it now all the children have grown up and have there own cars and i have a Porsche Boxster 986 2.5 Manual which mainly the wife drives
    sorry back on the question
I quite like the look of the Blinged up car for fun and i am not one who looks to re sell or make any profit or value , i normally drive them till they are no more then scrap and move on. contrary to many after only owning the car for 6 weeks and driven 1500 miles i have had a few complements on the actual chrome arches
So i was thinking of going the full hog for fun of course and chroming the Headlamp Surrounds and rear light surrounds as well as the door handle bevels
add to this maybe the blacked out privacy glass and the refurbishment of the AMG Wheels and boom a Pimped up W208
Also bear in mind i am a 48 year old Grandad and not a 25 year old drug dealer that being the reason i bought a car with rear seats as the wife told me i cannot have a Porsche 911 or the Mercedes SLK need to get the baby seat in
I am also not going through the Mid life crisis as i am told that they now take up marathon running and i have already done 4 of those so seems i am past that .
i am guessing this will be a high portions of no on the question from the purists but it will be fun to see the outcome
    thanks for voting

Personally I’m one for leaving cars are they were designed. I also like the Q car approach - a little fettling is ok ( I put a boot lip spoiler on)

Jon Bell will be along soon extolling the virtues of chromed parts :D, but you should really avoid. They do give the car a tacky look. Debadge, dechrome, keep everything understated. That's the MB way.

Had to vote yes because my 124 has them and I think it dresses the car up just enough. But this raises a question I have wanted to ask, were the chrome wheel arch covers ever standard equipment?

No. It will end up looking cheap and tacky imho.
    But each to their own.
If you want it and will like it - go for it!

OK if that's what you want, but boy it's difficult getting a good chrome job done these days. Most chromers will just lob chrome onto bare metal which will last no time at all. A proper triple plate process costs an arm and leg.

Keep the car standard, I'd go for a 911 though as they have great seats in the back and my kids absolutely loved the "mighty Boosche" as they called it. They also appreciate in value if you get the right one.

Nonsense. I can point you to a very high quality plating and polishing business in the Midlands who will strip and replate an old R-R radiator grille for under £300.

Really? I'm astonished. Please point me to this business. I need some chroming doing.

Classics & Chrome in Hinckley, on Brindley Road. Ask for Dave. They used to do superyacht/ megayacht-level mirror polishing and chrome plating for me, cost was astonishingly low for the level of work they did and the service was superb.
