Thanks fella
Ill try find and order a link on ebay.. At least then it may id if its the amp or cd player, and there will be a link floating about if anyone needs to borrow.

Would the amp or cd player failing mean the mobile phone not powering up? It has an in built cradle with one of the Nokia shaped Bluetooth units in it.. That has no lights on at all and wont turn on?
Im not too worried about loosing the phone or the cd player. Just didn't know if telephone would have no sound, or no power

Sorry for all the questions

The ring topology is still the same whether its MOST or D2B so troubleshooting techniques are the same.

Ok, so cannot find a D2B fiber optic coupler in UK. All are in USA (Loads of MOST ones for pennies!) . Will look at ordering one, but 2 week delivery..

Would it be worth pulling the plug out each box in turn and see what connection the light stops flashing at then I can id that piece of equipment as US? Or doesn't it work like that?

The big clue here may be phone not powering up as I believe this is on the fibre loop as well. See if you can find why thats not powering up. A look at the cable connection to the phone will confirm if its on the fibre loop.

hmmm lots of spurious info thus far.

A 2002 car will not be MOST. Its D2B.

the fact that it cannot see the Cd changer implies that one of the D2B components is dead thus breaking the ring.

From what you have told us it sounds very much like water has got into the rear left side of the boot through the vent there. If you have Bose, your amp is in the bottom of this area and that has most likely got wet and is now dead (hence broken ring and no sound). If you dont have Bose then the CD changer has got wet and broken the ring. The Bose amp is under the CD changer.

D2B cars do not have an AGW.

Hi guys. Sorry haven’t updated lately. Had issues with Range Rover and work etc.

Am going to look back into no sound again Saturday and investigate further. I did check the left hand side bootarea soon after and it was dry.
But totally understand it could still be amp or cd.
It does have Bose system.

Does the unticked box mean anything?

I got it wrong re: AGW, but posts 2, 19 and 20 do point out it's D2B not MOST.

The picture just shows whats coded thats all.

The only way to properly diagnose this is to isolate each item and leave just the comand and the Bose amp on the fibre loop. If there is still no sound its the AMP (my bet thats it).

~If it works then re-introduce each of the remaining components to the ring one by one and see if it works. Make sure you power the comand off and on each time you add a device.

Isolate each unit by unplugging the orange fibre optic plug and plugging one of the “links” onto the plug?

Sorry for all the newbie questions guys.

Ok. So update (as it’s dry outside!)

Have brought two joining clips from Merc (only had 2!
I’ve unplugged and joint the input plug to the CD changer in boot.
I’ve unplugged and joint the input plug to the Phone box under rear seat.

I’ve tried the “kickstart” function in the secret menu.
I now have:-
Radio,,,lights up but no sound
Telephone,,, “TEL ERROR” No Phone. Handset isn’t lighting up either like no power. Was like this before I linked it out.
CD,,,”No CD changer”
Tape,,, Can hear it turning but no sound
TV,,, seems to be trying to do something, no sound.Apways been hit and miss tho
NAVI,,, all working but no sound.

I “think” I’ve checked all related fuses
The cd and amp area in boot has been dry since day 1

I’m getting a bit confused on if I should be and where I should be looking for the red lights to flash? Also how to make them flash.

Are we thinking pick up another amp and try that next?

Cheers guys
Really appreciate your help. Is one of the last jobs I need to finish and I think I’d have gotten away with the accident!

Tel

.....Update......

Connected all the optic cables back as they should be, but “joint/bypassed” the amp cable FO cable. Was kind of expecting for the phone to light up? (I think this may be a power to it issue now) but was at least expecting the CD player to come back to life just without sound, but it hasn’t.

So basically exact same as before.

......Also (you knew I was gonna be a pain in the butt today!!).......

So I have no power going to phone cradle (presumed)
Screen shows No CD changer. With engine running pressing the eject button on the cd changer in the boot does nothing. Could that mean no power to that either? I’m guessing the unit should still work even if the amps u/s?

Am so so sorry guys

Watched a few vids on where to look for red lights and it seems my system goes headunit, amp, CD Player, Telephone.
I’m getting red light (when turning headunit on) to the amp, but nothing to the CD Player plug. Also no red light inside the amp socket.

So it all 'stops' at the amp?
Looks like you may have found the culprit. :)

Have found 2 amps on eBay.
Both connections look the same. Part numbers different. 1 listed for an early ML £25 one listed as For a S Class £60
Am I right thinking as long as the connections are the same and has the same FO connection I can use it?

Also if I bypass/Link the amp FO shouldn’t the CD changer and Phone work (no sound) but at least be discovered by the head unit? Neither are when I bypass the amp.

Cheers

So. Latest update. 2nd hand (but apparently working) amp turned up today. Not exactly the same but same connectors and FO etc.

Plugged in and I’m still only getting red flashing light to the input FO plug. Nothing at the next step along (CD Changer)

Also I cannot see any red light flash inside the amp socket.

I’m guessing this means either I have brought a dead amp, there’s no power to the amp. Or they are not comparable?

Ok. For anyone still following.
Today was one of them swear and bang about until it works kinda days!

Second hand working amp fitted and still nothing! No lights from inside amp etc.
Checked power to Cd Player and amp, all ok.
Unplugged and plugged power into amp and Cd and both click as if turning on..... except, when you disconnected the power from the cd the amp “out” light flashes!
Join the FO cable on the CD.. Unplug power to cd and everything comes to life!

1 dead CD player causing all the trouble, but only let the amp pass the FO light on when the actual power was removed from the CD.
