Hi guys!

Looking for some advice if possible! I currently drive a 2007 Audi A3 but have been looking to move to Mercedes and have seen a nice CLC.

I have been to look at a 2010 CLC 220 which is for sale at £4300, car has 80k miles on the clock and seems in good nick from what I can tell.

Anyhow to cut to the chase is the CLC a decent car to move to? Any issues with the engine on it or any major parts need replacing at that sort of mileage? I'm a bit of a novice with Mercedes having never owned one before so thought here would be the best place to ask my questions!

Cheers

Martin

Yeah mate I didn't really fancy a petrol although I did see a nice Kompressor 180 the other week!

I will check that those two things have been done, cheers!

Hi Martin and welcome to the forum

People with more technical knowledge than me will be along soon, no doubt, but if you’ve got a link to the ad for the car, post it on here and we can cast an eye of the photos and specs.

Before you go for a petrol 1.8 Kompressor , have a good read up on tinternet for "M271 Engine problems" , specifically the cam chain and sprockets .

Yeah I think I will go for the diesel 220 should everything I see be positive in regards to it. I think the mpg on the petrol is pretty poor from what I've seen?

Average of 30mpg on my Clk Kompressor . So yes the diesel should top that provided it's not all short journey stuff

As far as I'm aware not too many issues on the CLC in diesel 220 form.

Thanks for all the feedback so far, I was a little worried about buying what will be a 9 year old car soon (although still newer than my current) but I've heard mercs seem to run forever with the right maintenance.

I have three MBs.
The oldest is 25 years old.
The youngest is 16 years old.
One has 150k miles and still drives beautifully.
The 25 year old one is my favourite to drive though.

And they're all petrol.

9 years is nothing.

Nice! I was watching a guy on YouTube who owns a 2000 s500 and it looks stunning, I can imagine how nice it is to drive some of these older mercs.

At that age , have a good look underneath at the rear subframe , there have been some C class failures at that age . It will at least make a negotiating point and sound like you know your Sh£T :D

As with any used car, check its been serviced properly, and doesn't have any expensive damage that needs fixing.

You may find the interior a bit of a step down from an Audi, as the CLC interior is from the last gen C class and fairly old now.

Check the MoT history here: https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/

Also sometimes these CLCs are overvalued for what they are, run the details through we buy any car or similar to see what a trade value is.

Also check what Euro rating the diesel is, if you ever need to go to London, as the emissions zone comes into force next year.

Mechanically most MB's will go on almost forever but yes beware certain problems as already posted.
I agree with Lost Kiwi. My W202 and my SLK are both quite "old" but boy do they drive nicely and make me feel special.
Don't worry unduly about actual age or even high mileage.

Thanks for all your replies, I went back to the garage today to potentially buy the car however someone had got in there first...you win some you lose some!

Anyhow I will stick around on here I think as a mercedes CLC is definitely going to be my next car purchase! some people don't like how the car looks at the back but I kind of think it adds to it's charm haha!

Interesting that you mentioned the interior and I kind of agree. On my A3 I have the basic Audi chorus radio and I have swapped it out myself for an android screen with sat nav and DAB, is this something that is possible on this model of MB?

Cracking cars the CLCs and with the 220CDI lump its a very effective and nice car to drive. It will have the 646 engine in it so capable of a good remap to increase power and economy. I have owned a couple myself and always find them to be great vehicles.
