So I've finally decided to proceed with an AMG brake upgrade for my 07 CLS 320. After much research, I've found out what is and what is not compatible, what the pitfalls are, and how much work is actually involved.

The 05-06 55's and the 06-09 63's are compatible - but the initial purchase price and replacement front rotor price of the 63 is prohibitive. So it's the 55's then.

These look really interesting -
http://www.ebay.com/itm/161075774638?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2648
and they have given me a really good deal - but the seller is adamant that calipers won't fit.

But they look identical to these -
http://www.ebay.com/itm/251328282879?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2648 -
which I've been assured DO fit???

I understand the E55, SL55 and CLS55's are the same - but apparently not the S55 or CL55??? To make things more confusing - this seller claims that these CLS55 brakes WILL fit an S55???
http://www.ebay.com/itm/181157912090?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2648

If anyone could shed some light on the matter I would be greatly appreciative - maybe the part numbers for the CLS55 front and rear calipers?

Anybody?

I would say looking at all three listings they are all the same and will fit your CLS
but you will need to drill out the front hub carriers and cut the dust shields back

Swedish insurers are more relaxed about this sort of mod?

And I thought the Sweds were far more safety conscious ...

They are. but most do a far better job of anything than over here in the main.
There are huge garages under the shops and some Flats/houses where the winter nights are spent.

ahh, not so good. Unlikely to return then.

Any one else done this swap ?

I've found a set of CLS55K calipers for sale.

The standard CLS 320CDI discs are 312mm I believe, which sounds way too small for a 1800Kg car. Mind you the thermal capacity depends on the overall volume of material, need to find out how thick they are.

The discs need changing on the car I'm looking at. Will be a good opportunity to see if I can get the larger discs in. From my initial enquiries. It appears a :

2005-9 CLS 320CDI (CLS350CDI) has 312mm discs, 28mm thick (thanks Kenny), weighs 8.68Kg (Pagid 104220899)
2005-9 CLS 350CGI has 330mm discs, 32mm thick, weighs 10.14Kg (Pagid 104220908)
2005-9 CLS 55K has 360mm discs, 36mm thick, weighs 15.6Kg (Pagid 10422098A)

The rears are the same non-vented 300mm till you get to the 55K/63 which are 330mm, 26mm vented discs.

The sweet-spot I see is the 350CGI/500CGI. Gives the extra mass and diameter, without going to the expense and weight of AMG package. Not keen on increasing unsprung weight, an extra 7Kg of weight per wheel being spun around will be significant

I haven't managed to find any online catalogues that'll let me check that the caliper is the same but with a different carrier, which will allow for the change from 312mm to 330mm at minimal expense.

Therefore:

Anyone know what I'm looking at is feasible ?
A link to an online catalog with part numbers and diagrams ?

Thanks
