As above people , the "Brake Wear" message popped up on the display a day or so ago . Cant complain as they are originals and nearly seven years old.

Checked the front disc wear and they are at 26.55mm , the wear limit is 26mm so i will replace them at the same time as the pads to save me doing the job in a year or so.

I am contemplating a set of "fancy" drilled / slotted discs for the front for no other reason than they look better than the stock ones.

So , after some Googling i have found these EBC ones for a sensible price so was contemplating using them with a set of the EBC Red Stuff pads.

Anyone had experience with these EBC discs , the mentioned pads seem to get a positive recommendation on this forum anyway.

I put drilled brembo discs and brembo pads on mine, for the look. 295mm. They stop no better or worse than standard MB 295mm.

I am having trouble sourcing anything , drilled or slotted, apart from EBC in the required sizes , there are Black Diamond ??, Febi ?? and MTEC ??.

Brembo dont do them for the CLS in the sizes required (312mm x 28mm)

I've had slotted Black Diamonds on my Smart for the past two years and they've been fine aside from pad deposition into the slots.
Slightly noisy under hard barking but otherwise you'd never know.
I'd avoid drilled unless the holes are cast in and finished with a drill as simply drilling discs creates stress points and they end up cracking outwards from the hole.
I'd never let EBC discs anywhere near my car as my previous experiences showed them to consistently give me issues with judder.

^ I'm with Jon- had that combo on my SL and it worked very well, virtually no brake dust either.
Something my 63 standard pads creates in clouds....pity they dont do Red stuff for mine- only yellow stuff and in the past I've been less impressed by those...

Put standard disks and Red Stuff pads on

That seems to be the way to go , OEM rotors and the EBC (red) pads. I will call the chaps at MB Grangemouth later today for a price as i can get one of the chaps in work to pick them up on the way home if they are competitive with my local dealer .

I cant be arsed with the potential messing around with some of the non OEM parts.

Thanks all - K

aren't the red pads the most abrasive , as in for going like hell and will still stop no matter how hard you hammer them ?

Not sure on abrasive, they certainly stop you well- no discernible disc damage /wear but also little dust

Called MB Grangemouth for a price for the lot and it comes in at £160 ish for the discs / pads / sensor so it looks like OEM all the way , better the devil you know than the devil you dont.

With an average daily journey speed of 17 mph then a set of Fred Flintstone stoppers would do me.

And to be honest Kenny, nothing at all wrong with OE in this case!
Just a bit more dusty. Good price again

The originals have lasted 6 1/2 years and 40k miles so this next set will see me through the ownership of the car.

I had a bit of a time fitting the aftermarket alloys which turned out to be a complete pain so at least with the OEM parts they should just be plug and play .

Check out Akebono ceramic brake pads for your E63 John. Heard lots of good things about them and minimal brake dust.
