clutch problem

    Your Mercedes:
    Sprinter 03 2.2cdi
    changed a solid flywheel in an 03 sprinter to a dual mass 05 flywheel with 03 clutch....****** thing wont go into gear ..start van in gear is fine but clutch engaged all the time..frustrated ..HELP PLEASE

    did you measure the flywheel thickness between the 2 parts ?

    no.Solid flywheel is thick..Dual mass is about 5mm shallower but both about the same when you put clutches and pressure plates together..Are you saying that there are differences between dual mass flywheels????? surely all flywheels should be same as going to same engine??

    Clutch assemblies are made to work as a unit - e.g flywheel, pressure plate and clutch plate. The tolerances are quite small between engagement and slipping.

    well put a new complete unit including dual mass in today...and guess what....yep...still doesdnt work..Spoke to luk tech and told to reset the clutch...with the tool for 240 quid!!!!!!!! Made my own..Reset put all back in and.....the same ...cant get it into gear..Something has to be wrong...HELP PLEASE

    are you 100% sure you have the clutch arm in correctly , im assuming its not concentric

    it is mate..Gearstick works if engine off.When engine started cant get it to go far enough to engage gear..

    Must be a mismatch in clutch and dual mass then if everything is fitted correctly..

    You will have to get a complete 03 kit, it looks like this set for your comparison.

    But is it the right kit ?

    I've had this problem before with Vito's and Mini all wheel drive LUK clutch kits and DMF's

    Its the clutch plate that's the problem iirc.

    I have fitted a brand new 4 piece kit,And to make sure it was the right one ,i contacted luk technical with reg number and engine number,to verify our motor factors gave me the right one.They have!!!!!At a total loss....Has to be a faulty pressure plate surely??????

    How much travel is there at the pedal before you feel resistance?

    I fitted a Valeo kit and it sorted the problem the clutch plates were different ...................... I just remembered.
