Hi all ;)

Can someone out there give me some advice. In these autumn / winter months I frequently find, when my SL is left unused for a few days (or less), I get a condensation build up in the interior window surfaces. So much so I need to use the kitchen tissue towel to give it a good wipe down before setting off. I've never suffered this to anywhere near this much on any other car I've owned. Does someone out there in Merc land have the same issue with the SL and know why it occurs to such an extent - and why on this model. Does it happen on other models in the Merc range? Answers appreciated ,,, thanks in advance.

Dale.

Heater box drain blocked, is the car damp in the boot or are the carpets damp near the sills.

Hi Malcolm, I hope you're well -- you were up early this morning :)

The boot is susceptible to dampness but I keep an eye on it. Generally the boot is okay, I know where the weak points are with regard to that, I've even got the vacuum pump within a sturdy plastic bag as opposed to sitting in the normal sponge support as I have on previous occasions had enough water in there to soak it through. I keep the drains clear. Besides the leaks one can gets in there what causes the condensation in the boot anyway :?:

The carpets are not damp near the cills. There is however a collection of water at the bottom of the plastic box under the near-side bonnet vent, it has a removable clip-on top to it (I think, the off-side is not of the same design so couldn't collect water anyway) Is this the heater box you're referring to :?: if so how can I drain in :?:

Offside feeds across to the near side which should be clear to drain freely......I think you have found your problem confirming the likely cause identified by Malcolm.

Hi Dale the drain is in the N/S/F wheel arch behind the plastic liner, if you remove the liner the triangular shaped rubber bung will be blocked either cut the end off it or pull the bung out and throw it away (and stand clear it will gush if its backed up!!!!!) :D

How do the you remove the two grills? Do they simply unclip? I'm worried I'll break something if I simply try to pull them upwards.
Any advice gratefully received.

Yes they do......that is the grills below the grills in the bonnet itself accessed with the bonnet up?

Thanks for this chaps, looks like mine is blocked too. Inside does seem damp around the windows all the time and the front left drain box under the bonnet grille is half full of water.

I'll unblock the drain and fit my new alarm at the same time, (same liner to come out!)

I've just got the one annoying drip to fix where the vario roof meets the windscreen above the drivers seat/window.
I've tried Gummy Pflege 3 times but it is no better, any brainwaves on this none?

Regards Colin.

One thing that always strikes me about this mod is it not easier to simply poke a flexible wire down the thing every so often to clear it? As opposed to removing wheel and liner and cutting the thing off?

There is a problem here Gordon, this heater box drain has flaps to let water out, leaves go down and block it, this causes so much damage in the car, removing the ears or flaps allow everything to pass through.

This particular seal is reasonably cheap from the dealer and very straight forward to replace Colin

Thanks Malcolm, this fix looks like it is for the lower end of the door seal?
Mine is leaking from the top of the drivers window/vario roof/windscreen joint.

It drips onto my right shoulder area.

Or am I looking at it wrong?

Ok, got it, thank you.
I assume then this paper is instructions to remove the trim around the rubber seal above the windscreen in order to replace that seal?
