Or get a S500 and LPG convert it - have run 2 Mercs on LPG - NEVER had a single problem with either related to fuel or engine (electrics can be more of an issue).

Diesels I have had 1 and already had some problems - reading on here they seem a lot more troublesome.

What do the conversions cost these days to LPG please

For the best systems aprox £1200 - 4cyl, £1500- 6cyl, £2k for V8. But im sure you can get cheaper systems (still multipoint) for less.

Just found out that extended warranties do not cover private hire usage, it was naive to think that they would I suppose.

Found one in great condition, 05 reg with just 35k. Steering wheel quite worn out though for such low mileage.

Since w221 diesel v6 is hit & miss then what about a petrol version, perhaps the 350L?

The V6 is fabulous and highly rated by most. Mine's done 35k so far and not missed a beat. During the first few years of a cars life I would use MB servicing to make sure you get the updates and service campaigns done (free when you are serviced). Some of the deals on new cars are first rate and well worth checking out.

Due to high estimated mileage, I am leaning towards original configuration, but with an extended warranty.

Have you checked out the MB one -can keep extending. But most cars doing commercial work round here, and doing big miles like you plan, buy new and sell every 3 years. Under original MB warranty all the way then as the 3 year warranty is unlimited mileage (unlike many makes which tend to be up to 60k).

Dreaming of a CL55k - one day maybe....
What do the conversions cost these days to LPG please

I paid £1450 to convert my ML500 - runs beautifully. And that wasn't the cheapest (£1200 at ProfAutogas) but local, and a good quality kit.

Call Dominic at Avon Autogas - knows his stuff and good prices, even if he's too far from you, he should know someone local he can recommend.

Well done, and being the 2005 model should avoid most of the rust issues. Great mileage too.

Thank you, hopefully it will not be giving me a lot of headaches. Btw Warranty Direct told me that I CAN get cover for private hire use upto 30k miles per year, anything over that and warranty will be void. Funny thing is their T&C state that private hire users will not be covered. Will need to get it in writing from them in pro-forma.

Just got it, drove from Kent to Brighton and then onto Suffolk, 150 miles, some town bumper to bumper and motorway driving (averaging 60mph on motorway), according to computer average speed for trip was 39mph and 41.4mpg. Amazing driving experience.
