I previously posted a q re my e320 cdi W210 (2001). It's definitely leaking air. have had a diesel garage look at it and it's not the obvious in terms of the fuel pipes. The guy there was doing me favour and so didn't spend too much time but could not find anything obvious but suggested pump o ring common rail "sumthing sumthing" as options.

I asked the question if it is sucking in air (when parked ovenight and nose up) it must be leaking when in use. Following my basic logic...look for the proverbial wet patch. Garage said just because it leaked and vacuumed it would not necessarily leak out diesel ?!?

Parrot of Doom and others all provide great advice on my orginal posting but really would appreciate any feedback on whether a non-leaking "leak" is real or is the garage yanking my chain because they cant be bothered with the job.

I really am pulling my hair out on this one and desprately need help

You might not see a wet patch, the system 'sucks' diesel up, rather than 'blowing' it up. Therefore it tends to draw air in, rather than spray diesel out.

My understanding is that when you park it overnight, the fuel drops back down to the rear of the car, because there is an air leak that allows this to happen.

The usual culprit is the pre-filter o-ring. Try getting a new o-ring, and replacing it.

Parrot of Doom...or others

GREAT NEWS ! :D :D :D

Have identified the fuel leak. It is the first fuel hose going from (fuel out of) the fuel filter towards the common rail.

Couple of press fit releases and away they will come.

One question. do I buy the hose with the fittings on the end or can I simply replace the hose onto the fittings.

I have been told if I just replace the hose I will have hells own job getting it on the black plastic bit that clips into the fuel "thingy" sealed with an o ring (I will definitely be replacing the o rings). They are standard old fashioned push fit with no fixing clips.

Would appreciate your advice, if I can just do the hose then will do tomorrow if not and I need the bits pre-fitted on the ends will be a trip to stealer on Monday.

Thx as always.
