I wonder if it's just me? I think the mb dpf regen system is crap,, over 2000 rpm, esp. Most will know that even at legal cruise on a run will often be under 2000 rpm, mine normal regents around 360 miles, right now its 450 miles since last, its a deliberate effort to keep going for 20km above 2000 rpm. And why the gits can't give a message saying try to keep above 200o, regen attempt in progress, it beyond me...
But then I think benz are not well adjusted anyway push gearshift forwards to go back and back to go forward!! Which git designed that!
Anyway I am now faced with going for a deliberate 20 drive on motorway tomorrow to see if regen takes place. Fill level 85% today.

Can't you just drive in a lower gear to force the DPF regeneration?
All automatics that I've ever had have had the gears in the order - Park, Reverse, Neutral, Drive, pushing forward from Drive to get Reverse and pulling back to get Drive. Now we have steering column changes its up for reverse, down for drive and push in to park!

DPF, AdBlue - spawn of Satan forced onto those buying oil burners. I've had a few as hire cars but never owned one, always struck me as a nasty, dirty fuel for private use and now this is what is needed to clean it up.

The whole point is.. Unless Yr motorway driving and even then dropping s gear a regen may not happen as below 2000rpm and maybe less than half tank. And no on screen info on how to do it.
I do know, but that not the point. Many won't, until its a prob and many, incl my neighbour hav no clue as how to get the car to do a normal regen, given thier normal and uninformed driving method

I always made sure when the DPF started a regeneration I extended the journey to let it finish - not always possible I know but I managed it 99% of the time

I used to notice mine used to do a reign periodically, even if it was only being used locally.

Now on the motorway, which i always do, I’ll knock the gears down to have the rpm around 2.500r for about 15/20 mins. As mentioned even at brisk pace the engine would normally be below 2,000rpm. Since doing this I’ve never noticed tell tale smells of the w221 doing a regen in say 3,000 miles.

I have no idea what the parameters are for it to do a regen but, from my experience, it will do it when it needs to regardless of rpm.

All to do with back pressure if you are doing a lot of motorway miles hence the engine always being at full running temperature the DPF burns off soot passively so no need for a forced regeneration by the ECU the soot burns off naturally

Mine say's something like the above.
Car is new to me so i have been watching the levels on my Autel and they are low.
Not done any m/way at all yet just 22 mile run's on the duel at 70mph so rev's around 1700rpm if that.
Also many short runs as well.
I can't tell if a regen is running ????.

I had my 350CDi for over 70k miles from new and never, ever had a problem with DPF regen. I was aware it was doing it, from time to time, because the car kept the revs higher all by itself. I never had to force it to do it and I never had a problem switching the engine off when it was part the way through.

Mind you, I’m glad I went for petrol with the current car ;)

Just requested a regen with my scanner.
Engine was warm to start with so i pressed go.
Rev's went up to 1200 straight away and i had 3/4 of a mile to the duel carriageway then in manual 5th gear rev's just over 2k and 10 miles later scanner said regen successful but don't turn engine off until the temp was ??? but a normal steady drive back the 10 miles in auto and temp gauge looked back to normal.
Happy now i know how/what and when to do just in case but will keep my eye on the levels.
Now to set the new spare key to unlock all doors that should be easy will ask my m8 google.
