Stopped on Wednesday at 2.30 just up from junction 1 shopping centre
for breath test 10 minutes or less and was away again.
Funny thing 2 questions asked before doing test ,did I have a drink in the last hr or smoke a cigarette.
Anyhow didn’t bother me , I don’t understand how they don’t catch more when you see the number of cars in the pup car parks from before lunch.
Just to add I do take a drink but would not drive and would have a good idea if I drink too much not to drive the next morning or until at least after 2 , that’s my rule to myself.
I retired from the police 18 years & the law might have changed. But then to require a breath test there were three conditions.
After a RTC reasonably belived to be the driver. Moving traffic offence. Smelt of alcohol & belived to be over the limit.
Has the law changed?

Empty garage, awaiting new toy :)

Same as any traffic stop.
This is a drive through checkpoint i suppose testing drivers ?
But............
I got stopped for overtaking a learner driver doing 20mph in a 30mph zone,
I didn't question anything just showed my licence and carried on my day.
The TO actually said "you have done nothing wrong" he was just checking me out.

I didn't make a YouTube video of my rights being abused for a unnecessary
"who are you and what you doing" violation stop.

proportional attn to all crime, not just xmas drink drive mornings.. i am against grannies getting mugged ,killed by x/holes, i am against speeding, but not much worried about 3mph. i am sick of police inattention to private car crime , being advised no police resources to resolve, attend a robbery . police tearing around the countryside in 50k bmw saloons or 4x4 , whats wrong with 2x kia or fords.it sometimes,i am afraid ,a bit more about creating publicity and revenue streams. thats just my view.

Or you might argue that for each accident prevented it saves the massive resources needed to tidy up and then investigate. Thereby leaving the limited resources to attend to the more menial activities caused by law breaking.
I'm sure the officers used for these campaigns could be doing other stuff, but it seems they are busiest in night the time hours.

hear you, but same can be said about the resources used dealing with someone had for 3 mph over the speed limit . an area where we may agree , when idiots are picked up drunk and disorderly on the street at night, puking and abusing, they get should fined 500 quid and dont get out f the cell till its paid, same for wasting medical crews time.
sorry but i not any friend of plod some time ago boots next to our uk flat was robbed at night, my wife reported it , plod says he was coming, never turned up ! wife stayed up all night for bxxxxr all.. boots robbed again some moths later wife did,nt bother reporting it, plod knocked on door next am asking if she knew anything, wife says heard row got up made cocoa and went back to bed ! ON a leave cycle about 8yrs ago xmas some txxxer threw a shopping trolley through the back window of my car, called plod, call yr insurers says he no effort to look cctv or anything else ..always see plenty tearing up and down the roads in 4x4 or bmw looking at what seems to be revenue collections, speeding, seat belts ect when i was a kid the police seemed to be to serve and protect, now it seems they are primarily an organ of the state , i dont say thats all they do ,but to many it sure seems like it .

The point I was making is there are conditions that have to me met to require a breath test. I have no problem with the checkpoint.

Now that they have reduced the blood/alcohol north of the border to 50/100 then it is best (safest) to not bother with it at all , either the night before or "one" with a meal then driving home.

That’s the Question though Wighty, how much is to much ? Who knows.

Disposable breathalysers are pretty cheap. I had some for a road trip to France and as they were expiring, I decided to test myself after a heavyish night. I was not legal to drive (well over) and it was quite a surprise for me as I didn't feel that hungover.

I enjoy a few drinks but now take it very easy on a night out if I know I'm driving the next morning.

So if they get to work without getting caught and they start a days shift, no one is any the wiser and no harm done?
What jobs do you think are safe to do whilst over the drink drive limit?
Many jobs where the worker is under the influence can be very dangerous for other people around them or work done to a dangerous standard due to their condition.

If there's any chance of being over the limit, get around by taxi.
Anyone arriving at work drunk should be sent home and disciplinary action taken.
This crackdown is not about making money, it gets my vote.
I am against a zero limit but the current limit easy to drive in the morning without taking any chances, any doubt, leave the car at home.

At a job that I worked on (in the city office) we had a breathalyser in the office and had random tests because all our sites were controlled.

Our construction sites (oil and gas industry) had a system where you could not get your day pass for site until you had blown clear on a breathalyser. It was a slick setup - swipe your company ID, grab a plastic drinking straw stick it in the machine and blow. If clear, your day pass printed - if not......disciplinary action. The workers all had the option to declare themselves not fit for work before blowing.

Blimey never heard of that kind of system before. Surprised the "invasion of human rights brigade" didn't have a field day. Bet it concentrated minds a bit. Great safety system. A friend mentioned that one of their employees recently turned up for work totally drunk. He was disciplined but manager then wanted to promote him to a senior post. You have to wonder...

Doesn't a Police Officer have a Breathalyzer every day as part of his normal day. I seem to remember reading that somewhere.

That might explain why you never seem to see any these days!

I have been breath tested twice. Both times on duty when the stolen car I was following crashed.
You are classed as vehicle 2 in the RTC.
