Thanks very much for the reply, as it's a 271 engine i don't think i will bother, iv'e read enough about 271 engines to know they are not a lot of good.

I had a 2001 CLK 200K did 119K miles & no problems at all. My wife had a SLK200K 2004 did 90K miles, again no problems.
Finally she currently has a 2010 SLK 200K with 45K miles, again no problems.
Yes there is an issue with the cam chain & gears, but I am sure we hear of every one that fails on this chat line.
I would be more concerned about the ability of the 1800 in the E class body. If it was me I would be buying a E220CDI.

I had a 2001 CLK 200K did 119K miles & no problems at all. My wife had a SLK200K 2004 did 90K miles, again no problems.
Finally she currently has a 2010 SLK 200K with 45K miles, again no problems.
And to add some perspective......

My 2000 CLK200K has 107k miles and has been.....challenging. including but not limited to a cam chain. (That's on a M111 which is regarded as robust)

Thanks I did wonder how far back the 271 engines went.
