Please can anyone advise me about this problem. Appreciate your help - in advance. Thanks.

Have tried both keys - but it occurs with both.
Usually it seems that the key is locked in for about 25 to 30 secs.
Looking at other threads it seems like it could fall into the EIS problem area.
Only purchased the car last week. Infact it seemed to do it when I took it for a test drive but I thought it was me doing something daft, as suggested by the dealer. But can confirm Park selected and foot on brake etc.
I`m wondering now if the dealer new there was an issue.
Is this a common problem?

I`m live outside Bristol so could use a number of MB service workshops nearby, but would be happy if a particular one was recommended.

Thanks

If you leave the key in without turning it for 20-30s you will need to remove it and re enter it to be able to turn the ignition on.

Sounds normal with the electronic key.

You know more than me on this subject, but is there not an issue where the key becomes impossible to take out, I know that they cost £450

Apologies as I could have made this clearer.

The problem is evident when, having parked and turned off the ignition, the key is retained by the mechanism for upto 30 secs. This seems like a long time when you are sat in a garage forecourt or in the carpark at work etc.
This time varies from 25 secs upwards to what seems like perhaps even a minute. Clearly it isn`t right. My concern is that eventually I`ll find myself in a situation where the key is retained permanently and I can`t leave the car anywhere but home.

I suppose I`d best get it into MB in Bristol.

Thanks - great forum, and great to chat with folk with common interests.

Any more comments welcome, as it seems like I`m going to get stung for this. Its possible I could return to the dealer but the warranty looks like a "mechanical bits only, we have to fix in our own workshops" type.
