E270 Estate W211 Tailgate Gas Strut HELP PLEASE?

Hi

My tailgate strut have gone and been given a quote from a mercedes specialist for £290. Is there anyone with instructions and parts info on how I fit myself?

Not sure where to start but looks like I have to remove trim inside first?

Many thanks
Richard

If sourcing replacements from anywhere other than MB, be sure to get fat ones with an external spring. OEM is Febi Bilstein.

In the picture below, the upper strut is from SGS Engineering allegedly to fit the car and the lower is the old one removed from my car. Needless to say, the old one went back on the car and the new one went back to SGS. Despite me telling them this, they're still selling the part...

PART NUMBER?

Hi

I found some struts on ebay for W211 with the following part number PART NUMBER:2119800364

Does anyone know the correct part number for the E270 Estate gas struts?

They say they come from a E320 hatch? but I think they are same as E270 estate?

Thanks
Richard

Estate and saloon struts are completely different. Pop up your VIN and I can look up the right number.

You're right, of course. So long as they're not bonnet struts or the ones for the floor compartment lids in the estate, or the power tailgate actuators, they should be ok if they're an MB part. My offer of a check by VIN stands.

For your VIN, EPC gives:

Right: A211 980 07 64, replaced by A211 980 22 64
