2 out of 3 of the pistons have fused to the brake pads on my E63 on both front calipers. The mechanic thinks is will need new brake calipers for the front left and right.
Does anybody know anyone who may recondition my old ones or any cheaper alternatives?
The calipers numbers are 20.a495.03 and 20.a495.04.

Thanks AMGeed and John. I'm going to call them tomorrow to see if they can help.
Apparently, 2 out of 3 pistons on each front caliper have corroded onto the brake pad. My local mechanic has tried the company he sends items to for reconditioning but I don't think they are specialists.
I'll let you know what happens.
Thanks again.

If I were you, I would be interested to know why this happened?

The car may have seen some salt water, certainly sounds like it's been exposed at some point if it is rust, if so it would be the two bottom pistons of the caliper

Can't you just replace the pistons?

You can get the pistons for my Brembo fronts, but not the ATe rears. ( note not AMG)
But these refurbishment companys can get both ( possibly not original parts).

If it were mine, I would send them to a quality refurbisher ... apparently some do a great job ... new boots, new pistons, all cleaned up and powdercoated ... very reasonable prices. Like £58 to £70 each
(And I am sure new AMG Calipers are a fortune! Probably over £500 each )

The rest of us just replace/repair and dont worry about it.:)

I guess its just how your brain works.
To me, if something breaks in an "unusual" way; its sensible to discover why it failed.
Then you can cure that fundamental fault, possibly avoiding other expensive issues; and then, and only then do you replace the failed component; especially if its an expensive item.

E.g. Suppose the wheel bearing was knackered or the disc was damaged through heat stress and it was seriously overheating, so much so, that the heat was transferred to the Caliper/pad.
If you just replaced the caliper and pad, it might happen again in a few weeks.

Obviously if its just one of those things, then just replace it, and move on.

Thanks, I will try APD.
My mechanic says that there is a dust cover over the whole of the three pistons rather than each individual piston. The dust cover had come off on both sides, exposing all three pistons.
Thanks for your suggestions and any more will be gladly received and tried put.
