Hello all,

My Mercedes has had a fire in the boot which I believe is a common fault on these and therefore has caused the rear bit of the wiring loom to be burnt on the drivers side mainly by the split unit module, will upload pics later.

I have all the parts for the repair but need someone to carry out the actual repair.

The car is based in Birmingham and there will be cash, a bottle of JD and a pizza waiting :)

Cheers

Whilst I wouldn't be averse to helping you out I have a couple of issues...
1. JD? No thanks!
2. Winters coming.... and I'm seriously busy with my own fleet!

Not heard of a 'common issue' with fire on the 230s but I suspect it must be due water ingress into the boot (which there is an excellent guide for on the site).

That's fine i understand, I've been told by local Merc specialist that its a common fault he didnt mention the reason for it though.

I would much appreciate it if you can provide a link for the guide in regards to the water ingress, can seem to find it.

Would you or anybody else know of anyone who can assist with the repair by any chance?

Thanks for the link, that's a nice set of SL's you got there.

Its a decent chunk cut from a 2005 sl500, they cut it off from the drivers seat area.

Seat area? As opposed to the boot section?
Looking at your image you also need to repair the vacuum line for the central locking (yellow in the pics).

The large high current feeds from the alternator also look a bit knackered. If they are as bad as they look they'll need replacing. Joining them would not be an option in my view.

I have the whole rear end of the wiring loom running up to the seat area, I got them to chop it off there to be on the safe side.

Ill upload some pics of what I have a little later. I've basically got everything that goes into the boot from the SL500 I found breaking.

Most likely was a short circut caused by an electric issue. Verry unlikely as water.ingrease to be the cause. I would help you if you were closer to London. Hope you will fix it
