    I have a Mercedes C180 purchased in 2000 (18 years old).

The electronic key isn’t being recognised by the vehicle as the doors aren’t locking and it’s not starting the engine as the key won’t turn in the ignition switch.

My understanding is that it would be 3 things:-

    · Key chip faulty

    · Electronic ignition switch faulty

    · Steering lock module faulty

    Please advise the costs for:

    1. Diagnostic test

    2. Parts and Labour costs separately if each of the items had to be replaced.

    Thanks & Regards,

    Amaani

Cost will depend hugely on who does it and where you live.

Best say where you are , see if there's a recommended indy nearby and ask them directly.

Does the key work if you use the IR (point the key at the door handle)?

    Welcome - as LK says....
You might want to remove your reg number from your profile if having that in public bothers you

If u can open the key, check for any broken coil or any capacitor out of place. U may need another key :/ is that the only key u have?!
