Engine compatibility (316CDi Sprinter 2002 OM912)

Hi, does anyone have any experience with any of the non-Sprinter OM912 engines as fitted to the ML270, Ssanyong or the Jeep 2.7 CRD etc? I assume these are basically the same short engine? I am further assuming that there are differences with manifolds and sumps etc. I have seen somewhere that the ML and Sprinter engines are not compatible, but does anyone have any first-hand knowledge?

Can anyone offer any advice?

I am in Ireland and need to find a replacement used engine in Europe (and Sprinter 5 cylinder engines are very hard to find)
