Hi,I recently bought E250CDI (automatic) and noticed strange vibrations under driver seat, and quite noisy engine ? or exhaust maybe, under load 1500-2500 rpm, nothing on idle not shaking or vibrations at all.One more thing when engine is started and if i change gear to reverse i can feel engine movement inside, and this also happen when i change gear from revers to drive but not as much when is going from park to reverse.I recorded short video which shows engine behavior when gear is changed and when i tried test engine mounts using brake and accelerate method at same time.

at 0:15 change gear from P to R
at 0:18 change from R to D
and after that i done test accelerating and braking

Thanks for reply ,for me looks as bad mount too,i'm not familiar with Mercedes, this my first time ever Merc and so far i'm very disappointed .Previously i had F10 525D and comparing those two Merc working like tractor .On higher revs around 2000-2500 rpm its sounds like exhaust has leak or something wrong with plus vibrations.I will change both engine mounts and gearbox mount.

Way to much engine movement. Way to much. Those engine mounts are utterly buggered.

Pretty bad comparison if the 525 was from the early ones when it had a 3.0 straight 6, but it got changed to a 2.0 after that.

Either way I can’t talk, I’ve only had 3.0 Mercedes diesels.

You recently got the car and are very disappointed because wear items needs replacing. Hmmmmm. Should have realised when you got the car if you ask me.

Get the engine mounts replaced all round and enjoy.

I can understand the OP's disappointment, I too fell into 'Mercedes run forever' mindset. The fact is, they will run and run as long as you keep repairing them. The difference being that they are designed to be repaired.

The disappointment shouldn't be that parts fail but they are so expensive.

At the end of the day I borrow the wife's Clio and it's awful. Functional certainly, but awful all the same. Her father's Toyota even worse.

But then I slip into mine and it fits like a pair of your favourite shoes, comfy and reassuring.

Mine may act like a petulant child but the pleasure outways the pain and the alternative is too awful to contemplate.

At the end of the day, if it's not working for you, you need to buy a Honda.

Yes i'm very disappointed and now even more, because things going wrong and wrong again, now it's look like this will be gearbox problem not only engine mounts.

In the morning engine starts fine no problem at all,as soon when is on any gear no matter if is on D or R engine shuts down (with brake applied).

It happens two or three times when is cold, and after few starts finally i can drive, for me it looks it must be something wrong with torque converter or gearbox itself anyway not cheap things, that's why i'm so frustrated because i have this car only a week time and everything start collapse like domino.

Real shame but don’t give up!
You need a good indy- first the engine mounts , those need done now to avoid real damage.
When you say you’ve only had the car a week- did you buy it privately or dealer?
If a dealer, they would have known about the engine mounts I feel and therefore rejection or reparation of some type is justified!

Looks like it’s locked down- you need unfortunately to find a Mercedes specialist to read the codes on a diagnostic- where are you based maybe the members on here can recommend somebody for you?

Steve. Could you enlighten us to the nature of the modification and the reasons why?

Humming, droning and chattering noises into the cabin. I guess a better bush in the middle of them. They are the same shape and size. But there is a TIPs document about them.

maybe cos the origionals were a crap design. or the motors been running like a bag of nails and prematurely shagged out the origionals

I can understand that something wasn't working hence the change, my interest was more along the line of what went wrong and what was done about it.

As an example, my vacuum pump failed and the graphite impeller destroyed itself.

I bought another one. And took it apart.

The replacement had a slightly different vacuum port and it was obvious what was wrong with the original. As the graphite vanes swept past the port some harmonic resonance was created and shattered the graphite impeller. The new design as such that resonance would not be created. Problem solved.

It's points of design that interest me, how we overcome the problems.
