Also had the tracking done as a matter of course.
No issue with the prop shaft perhaps shaking the engine or the gear box mount as I see you must have had the gearbox out?

The transmission has been out twice, once for a TC change then again for a different transmission, but the prop is worth a look at.

The knocking noise could occur whilst stationary. It wasn't load nor hard, sounded like a cable vibrating against the body tub. The squeaking can be manipulated by either lightly applying throttle or lightly applying brake. A light application of either will encourage the squeak.

The engine has its own dampers, not sure how they work at the moment, just looking into it now.

Thanks for you input.

Have you tried it in different gears at the speed the problem occurs?

I take it the noise is only there when moving?

The knocking i could get whilst stationary, which is why i targeted the engine mounts. The knocking has now gone but it took at least 10 miles of driving on the new mounts.

I suspect the root cause is still there.

I get a slight vibration on mine which seems more noticeable some trips than others (don't use the car much) and the list of potential causes was immense. To name but a few off the top of my head it could be things like the air filter mountings, aux belt tensioner or alternator coupling (I suppose also the a/c compressor), injector going bad, power steering pump. Of course that's as well as the engine mounts and the gearbox.
