I bought my 2005 CLK 200K 10 days ago.
On Friday the Engine Warning Light came on (it looks light an orange engine)
There are no other symptoms on the car.
I spoke to the dealer on Sunday who told me to bring in the car today. However last night the light went out. The dealer said no a lot of point bring it in as the computer would require the light to be on to diagnose a problem. He said he has noted the problem and I should bring it back if the light comes on again.

The only other issue with the car is I park the car on a steep drive facing upwards. When I take the car out of Park the gear box 'clunks'. If I'm parked on a normal road then no problem.

Views on above would be appreciated.

is your foot hard on the brake when you take the car out of park on the driveway?

I've tried it with both foot on brake and no foot on brake.
When I park and put the foot brake on, the car rolls back a few inches.

The "clunk" is normal as it's just taking the slack up in the parking pawl (in basic terms, a peg in a slot).

If I were parking on a steep hill, I'd be tempted to apply the parking brake before putting it in park as an extra safety measure

Fault codes should be stored in the memory.
Light doesn't have to be on to read stored codes, iirc
