Help! my 270 clk had a warning pop up esp unavailable. Taken it to my local garage and had it put on fault finder. Threw up loads of faults so he turned them off and told me to use car for week. Gone back in loads of faults back seems to be low voltage communication errors .Esp fault comes and goes ,any ideas? .Garage has said could be damaged wire causing faults and would cost loads to fix. Only had car a few months and loathed to get rid as spares.

How old is the battery buddy , there should be a date stamped on top of one of the terminals ?

Yep first thing to check. Then check running voltages to ensure the battery is getting properly charged.

A bad earth is also quite possible - especially if there's any possibility of it getting wet. Lots of MBs have an earth behind the headlight that can get manky with time.

rather than saying loads of codes... what are they...

its a Mercedes so quite likely lots of faults, to go with your lots of codes,
but also likely you have lots of additional ones if the battery is low... it takes so long to run full diagnosis that even a fully charged battery will run out of juice on some models during a test... it should always be done with the vehicle on a power supply.

esp could easily be an ABS sensor

I had a w203 that did lots of short journeys, battery slowly faded which threw up lots of dash faults.. esp was one of the first things to get turned off. A good recharge and all issues always cleared.
It even stops changing gear if the battery is really struggling.

Hi guys changed battery not really cured the esp fault but odd thing is that it does not come on all the time now.Going to take it to a different garage ( MB specalist )to see if low voltage faults still there as not sure if usual garage is quite as good at MB cars as he said .

Had it put back on auto electricians scanner and now only showing steering control angle not communicating.with ECU. My guy thinks this is the module in steering column intermittently giving fault as it comes and goes .Had to have car back but he is going to have it back next week.does this part have to be decided by MB? Low voltage faults seem not to have returned after replacing battery.

Hi all thanks for all the tips and help. MB specialist Prestige Autotech in Shoreham checked fault codes and reset steering angle centre and 're calibrated it .still had fault but all low voltage faults gone since change of battery . Replaced steering angle sensor and now all faults have cleared thankfully.Next mission to sort out headlight washers!
