Hi

I have a 2017 c250d coupé with 19” wheels.

The front are getting low and I have noticed are worn excessively on the outer the edges - passenger one worse.

They only have 12k on so is this premature and is there anything I need to get looked at? Surely they should last longer than 12k aswell?

Not the cheapest tyres in the world either so want to make sure I dont put new ones on and get the same.

Cheers

Not uncommon on the MB cars - may pay you to have it checked and adjusted on a 4 wheel alignment rig Hunter is the common one - Wheels inMotion have it depending your location , Avantgarde Clevedon , Liverpool ball joint and alignment centre

Mercs do wear the outer edges of tyres due to the way they turn the wheels, mine have done the same at 18k, loads of tread on the middle part which is annoying

Isn't the front tyre edge wear sometimes increased by people that "dry" turn the wheels? (Turning the steering when the car isn't moving ) .

These are the tyres. Do they still look legal?

Over the width of the tyres, I'd say they were just about legal. However, both look to be almost down to the wear indicator, so at the end of their life anyway. Many MBs are known to wear excessively on either the outer or the inner edge at the front (and sometimes the rear!) so it's worth getting a proper 4 wheel alignment check by somewhere that knows what they're doing every now and then.

I don't think they are legal at all, the wear indicator is flush with the tread so they are illegal.

You need 4 wheel alignment on a Hunter machine, the tyre wear indicates your tracking is off

Kwik fit have Hunter in Scunthorpe

I’d go Bush Tyres tbh. Kwik Fit are cowboys round this way.

Does the wear look more excessive than normal or does it look ‘mercedes-esque?’

Haha, they are in many places I believe but not all
‘Mercedes-esque ‘ extreme I’d say, a lot but not all can be dialled out

Yup. There's an X on top of the wear indicator, when you can't read the X, it's at or below the minimum depth.

£220 each is cheapest I can find fitted. Camskill doing them at £175.10 each but then I got to find somewhere to fit and balance and I’m pretty sure a normal tyre place ain’t going to want me supplying my own tyres.

I have - more common than you think - also expensive fitting costs from some. Commercially you can’t blame them they just can’t compete with the internet suppliers it’s an uncomfortable marriage really

Oh, well guess it did pay to have been in the motor trade for all these years, you get to know the right people to go to.
The other thing to consider is if they don't want to do customer supplied, find someone who does. I wouldn't have much confidence in a firm that was unable to meet the trading standards? I would have thought a better customer relationship with business that do fit customer supplied parts.
Though just my own experience mind :)
