Hello,

My 2011 w221 has the clocks shown in the picture, the needles at rest are in the wrong position, has anyone seen this before? When the engine is running the rpm needle sits high too (checked with my live data machine) as does the fuel gauge as a full tank sits past full, I can't comment for the temperature gauge but suspect that might be out too.

Any ideas?
Thanks

Can anyone confirm if removing fuse 25, or disconnecting One of the batteries for a short amount of time might help? Or is this a waste of time?

Its definitely worth trying a disconnect of the cluster from power (by what ever means you choose).

Thanks, Do you know if it should be the battery under the bonnet or the consumer battery. I dont have my own fuse map for the car so would be relying on the internet and dont want to get the wrong fuse, although I believe its fuse 25 under the bonnet.

Thanks

That is odd indeed. both batteries need to be disconnected, I cant remember the order though.

You could reset the clocks on STAR which would probably reset it. If that doesn't change it, then its certainly possible the cluster is faulty.

Thanks, just had fuse 25 out, left out for a few minutes and put back, needles are in the same place, looks like it will have to go onto Star.

Thanks

The car has been on star and had the cluster reset, it is registering no faults and is still the same,

Interestingly when I remove the key and wait for the speedometer screen to go black, if I put the key back in all three needles momentarily go to the correct rest position and then rise back to how they are in picture above.

Does anyone have any experience with installing a used cluster? I assume star would have to match it to the car but have been told by my mb dealer the mileage won't be able to be adjusted from a used cluster..

Many thanks

Maybe at some stage in it's life, the cluster has been removed and partly dissmantled to replace a faulty bulb or similar, as the needles on the temp and fuel gauges look very similar to my W208 cluster which I had to dissmantle, to repair the temp and clock display but unfortunately replaced the temp gauge in the wrong position

Iirc, Cartronix do instrument cluster repairs, in Hampshire, you can send them your cluster, or they can do a while you wait repair if you book it in.
