Finish coming off steering wheel control buttons!

The finish is coming off control buttons on steering wheel,its sticky picking up dirt!.I wonder if there is a product on the market to put back normal feel surface,all suggestions welcome,my car is W210 E class year 2001!.

This is a well known pain in the bum problem on all MB of this age.

There is little one can do except to patiently take it off with a fingernail, then a matte spray varnish. You'll need to remove the buttons from the wheel for this.

Thanks for reply how do I take buttons off I,m a bit heavy handed and I don,t want to damage them?.

I just took the sticky off with white spirit or petrol I can't remember correctly try a tiny bit.

Thanks my buttons are beige,wouldnt you know it!.I will try the white spirit!.

When the rubbery coating has been cleaned off (IPA works well) the plastic underneath looks just fine...

It's not like you need massive grip when pressing them....

Aerospace 303 protectant widely used in US - needs serious rubbing - but looks good because of non-shiny finish.
