My fogged up indicator with a new one over 2 years ago. It was a pig to refit, as the mirror cover had a rounded clip and kept slipping off. Eventually I had to apply a bead of hot glue to hold it in place (or buy a new cover).
The replacement has now misted up really badly. I was loath to change it again. I read somewhere on here ages ago about trying to dry it out.
I waited for some dry weather when I wasn't doing much driv 20180507_102351[1].jpg 20180507_102425[1].jpg 20180507_102530[1].jpg 20180508_094338[1].jpg ing. . Held a silica gel bag to the mirror housing with some elastic bands, covered the whole assembly with a transparent plastic bag and left it in the sun for 4 days.
Initially the condensation covered the whole of the unit. After 4 days, drying out the gel pack overnight the condensation has almost gone. Another day should do it. I didn't take a before shot, only some during, but it should give you an idea.

Sorry the pics insist on going in the middle of the text???

Great idea Dai but I fear it will return :( it must be allowing moisture to enter somewhere. I wonder if it's possible to extra seal the unit some how when fitting a replacement ?

I'm sure you are right, but If I keep an eye on it prompt treatment when I see any condensation should sort it out. It did take a long time to get this bad. I'll probably cover it when I put the hose over her.

After a lot of condensation, the leds in my mirror began to go, until I had less than half the strip working (in darkness, the rest could be seen glowing faintly). Mot failure, so I had to replace. With advice from on here, I got just the clear plastic strip from Germany (£46) and examined it carefully for any poor seams before fitting. It would easily be possible to run a bead of silicon around the seams before fitting, and this would be hidden by the mirror housing.

Fortunately my leds are still working. I got my strip from MB Grangemouth. If it goes again I might remove it, dry it out and try sealing the edges as you suggest. I wish I'd done it before fitting. If I ever have to replace one again I'll seal it first.
