Had a run down to South Wales last week and was >70mpg for almost all of the way until the Gilwern Hillwhich dropped it slightly.

Another decent run this morning which was >76mpg until Ross on Wye then dropped slightly.

Overall I'm now getting just less than 60mpg tank to tank, with the best tank at 60.23 and the worst at 34.68 (when it was just doing the school run for 3 weeks with my wife)

No match for yours. But this was a recent run for me and the current mileage for the current fillup

I'm averaging 35mpg in the W212 E220, and 31mpg in the W211 E320... go figure.

Our S212 - 350CDI seems to struggle to get more than 36mpg on an average motorway based journey. 33 or 34 is more normal. 27-28 on short journeys. I had kind of expected better, but then it is nearly 2 tonnes of car, I suppose...

The C350CDi is 205kg lighter so should be better but not much

I used to get >40mpg form my W211 on motorways easily with the cruise sat at 76 (73 in reality). What's your tyre pressures like and how much braking do you do?

I think the tyre pressures are set at the slightly lower levels mentioned in the handbook for slower speeds (I forget the figure) - in aid of comfort. Braking? Not driving hard - I am a smooth-ish driver and leave good gaps, my partner is a bit more aggressive but the fuel consumption doesn't vary much in relation to who is driving.

The last motorway trip we did, I drove down to Poole at about the 'normal' motorway speed the keeps you just ahead of most things (cruise set) - the trip showed about 36mpg before we hit traffic at Ferndown.

The 212 E350CDI did manage the above this morning in my partners hands. Slow traffic on the M25 / M1. Best consumption we've ever had from it...

With these results, you should stand a good chance of winning if you entered the Economy Run (if they still run it)!

Ernie

ps I managed 64 on a run to Kent from Scotland in my last car, 1.6 204 Estate Sport. THat was driving at around 70 when possible or otherwise keeping up with the traffic.
