In my 1998 E300 automatic over the last months I have seem to be pushing the accelerator further to get moving especially in the mornings. Also a couple of times (in morning) seems to come out of gear altogether for a few seconds. My local garage are scared to tough the gearbox. What do I do?

Hello and welcome,, you get the fluid and filter changed in the box and use a good indie to do the job, at the same time the pilot bush seal can be checked to see if it is leaking

check the oil level in the box, sounds like it is too low.

No, he is correct, there is no dipstick. But they are available on Ebay for about £5.

BTW is E300 2008 TDi, referring to two cars?

Undo pipe on oil cooler run car too drain.
Refill to dip stick measure at operating temperature.
7.5 Litres if totally empty at 80 degrees if I remember correctly but you need a dipstick to get it right.
