Glow plug light staying on or flickering.

hi,

The glow plug light is staying on for much longer than normal and when it goes out it still flickers from time to time.

Car is a 2010 C350 CDI with 90000 miles on it.

It drive fine, so I am hoping it is just a warning to change the glow plugs?

Could be, though when both the relay & glow plugs failed (seperately) on my R320, the light had originally gone off & then came back on again. Careful you don't shear the plugs if you're doing the job yourself. I sheared one just using a 1/4 drive T bar & deep socket.

Glow plug/s failed first check with ohm meter like fuse.

They must stil play a part, even in this heat. Just jumped my R Class to move it, its not been started all day & I forgot to let the glow plug light go out before I started it. It turned over for a lot longer & when it did, I filled my garden with black exhaust

On Cdi engines the glow plugs are used continually , not just at start up , that's why they don't last as long .

Oh boy do I remember the white smoke that the CLS had when turning over when I had plugs and relay out lol

Had it checked out by a local Indie, turns out it is just the controlled that is faulty, but they want £220 for the controller and £80 to fit it. I can get a BERU controller from e-bay for £99.50, are these OK?

Could I fit this myself, or does it need a fault code resetting?

Genuine Mercedes part from Mercedes Benz Newcastle is only £114.60 albeit it’s remanufactured , or if you call MB Grangemouth on 01324 686002 they do good deals on those . A642900780187.
Your Indy price is quite reasonable really, I suspect it does need coding which is part of the £80 fitting charge. The part itself is a quick job.

My gp relay module didnt need coding , it was just plug and play . 15 mins work on the om642 engine .

Buy the Beru and fit it yourself it's easy to get at and its only spanner work .

I am getting conflicting info from the ebay suppliers, one is sayign I need a BERU GSE114 and the other is saying I need a GSE116.

Mercedes Benz of Newcastle have one on their Ebay shop for £114 post paid so if your not sure go for that , give them your Vin and you'll get the right one . As for position take the plastic cover off the engine and the relay is on the front of the left hand bank held on with two screws if I remember rightly , if its the original on there the new one is a slightly different shape. I see someone already mentioned Newcastle , I looked in the Beru catalogue and it says 116 for your car the 114 is for the 320
