Are they fun? I imagine that they’re a bit like an mx5/drivable atom

They redefine what you think of as fun. Tremendous levels of grip, can be driven flat out all the time, feel faster than they are, turn in quite well and are pretty much unbeatable point to point on a twisty road. I have 2 x V8 SLs and the little Smart will beat either of them on a twisty back road (as long as there aren't any longish straights).

best thing I’ve ever driven point to point so far has been a Honda S2000. Down the strines pass it was literally awesome in every way.

It’s a 320.

PETROL.

The bonnet star is missing but otherwise bodywork pretty much unmarked. 150k, pretty much full service history previous owner was a Merc restoration specialist who was too old to get in and out of it and traded it in for a Range Rover.

Thank goodness, I was worried you would go over to the dark side “DIESEL”

I considered it, but they were all workhorses that had had a hard life in the price I was willing to pay. And “I don’t want no trouble” either

It’s lovely though, absolute delight to drive. A few very minor things to resolve - passenger side mirror doesn’t adjust, rear washer makes noise but doesn’t squirt, bonnet star missing, parking sensors don’t work.

Cheers. “It’s looks well” as they say up here.

Update from the mrs:

“it’s lovely and smooth, and very zoomy”

Indeed. You are not wrong.

The w124 was classic old school, but I need to remember that the 129 has that kudos also, so hopefully this will be something to worry about less - aside from the SBC and Airmatic, which seem ok for now.

I had an F reg 200T for a while and as with the old school cars I was able to do the rusting rear brake lines and emissions myself for the MoT. Bit of an act feeding the new copper pipes over the self levelling and axle though while on low axle stands :)
They're great cars the 124's my mate had an AMG Estate version with the 3.2 litre engine, its original owner was a footballer

I’m sad about selling ours - it’s been in the family for 10 years and I never envisaged selling it at all until recently. It really does feel the end of an era, and I really hope it’s given the attention it deserves from the new owner whoever that is. I’m quite emotional about it.

Know how you feel, 23 years I had a car that I bought when I was 16, very sad to see it go. Another one for 16 years, and that one is in a private collection believe it or not :D
Enjoy the W211, I miss mine one a bit though only had it 5 months
