Aren't some roofs canvas rather than mohair LK? I believe my 968 cab is, although you can get a mohair replacment for even more than the close to £1k it would cost to change the

Yes some may be canvas and these need proofing.

Read this with interest , 2001 clk convertible. Doesn’t leak at all but deffo got green spots so will get into all the suggestions. Reproofing? Do I need to as a precaution ? Mine lives outside mostly but have no probs at the moment

There is no need to reproof. Haartz who make the fabric have historically not recommended anything but now do - check their website.
The fabric is designed to wick the water away.

Diluted Miltons is all you need to get rid of the green algae, and Johnson's baby shampoo (blue bottle not yellow) to do the general clean. No point in wasting additional beer tokens on all of these specialist products. which do nothing better.
