Sorry if this is a much covered subject but I've searched the forum and haven't found a definite answer.

Just online reserving parts to do a service tomorrow on the new to us 2007 CLK 220 CDI. Sorted all the filters etc OK but need to know oil type. At 2007 should I have a DPF and need low ash oil? I've found something on this forum that says if the transmission (auto) dip tube hasn't any sensor or small pipes going down from it then I do not have a DPF. Is that a certain guide as mine is just a plain tube.

Really appreciate a reply as I wanted to online reserve the oil later tonight.

Cheers.

The spec you want is 229.51 (this is low ash , I use it when I have no dpf either ) Normally there is a sticker on the engine . , if you search eBay for 229.51 , there are some cracking deals for MB oil , such as £35 for 10L

You won't have a dpf, that said 229.51 is fine for your engine (as is 229.5)

If the inside of your exhaus pipe is black and sooty you don't have a dpf , if it's clean you do .

Cheers guys, bit much to try and hassle a fast answer Sat night I know. Anyway all the evidence says no DPF but I did buy the better oil this morning meeting 229.51. Paid over the odds (£51 for 8l) just so I could get it done today. Next time I will be organised and get MB genuine oil from Ebay as you mention.

All filters and oil done now, much happier with a new to us car before we get driving it too much once I know the basics are OK.

Pair rear tyres next!

Just to add to this thread in case someone else finds it using search in the future...

I found this VIN decoder website which gave the full build details for our CLK. I read elsewhere on this forum that if it had a DPF it would be on the build list with code 474.... so that's a good way of checking.
