Hi Guys

I own a E230 Avantegard, 1998 estate.

The Climate Control unit has the economy light permanently lit. We have had the fluid refilled (it turned out it wasn't empty!) but no luck.

Then the main fan (which dehumidifies the window) stopped working a few weeks ago. Not good in this heat!!!

Our local Mercedes specialist says we need to buy a new head unit for the Climate Control (the part in the dashboard, kind of like a stereo unit), and a new fan, and maybe also new resistor set too.

Prices: £575, £210 and £110 respectively = £895.00 + VAT :(

Seems a bit overkill? And expensive!?!?!?!

I have tried a couple of breakers to get the head unit (to keep costs down) but no luck.

Any help and advice VERY much appreciated!!!

D

Hi & Welcome,
£Ouch. In the first instance I would find an independant A/C specialist who knows something about M/B's. If your dealer refilled thinking it was empty when it wasn't just shows how little the dealer knows about A/C.
The EC light comes on when the AC is off, there is also info that this will stay lit when the system is out of gas - although that has never happened on my 'E'.

Thank you

We had the gas refilled because I assumed that it must be empty because the Economy light was on. But it wasn't that simple unfortunately.

Contacting an aircon specialist sounds like a good idea actually. I'll give that a try just in case, but I fear it won't be that simple. :(

Any other ideas?

Many thanks!!!
