Hi all,

I'm at a bit of a loss at the moment, both financially and mentally; not to mention emotionally drained.

I own a Mercedes C250 Efficiencyblue 2.2 CDI

A brief run down of problems:
1. Car starts to crank for long periods in the morning before starting, but starts.
2. One morning car will not start after long periods of cranking which drains the battery.
3. Call AA, guy jump starts the car. First suspicion is the battery, but then the guy says he thinks it's a pressure problem, not battery.
4. Take car to indie, notices small fuel leak in some pipes at the top of the engine.
5. Purchase fuel pipe from mercedes dealer and take to indie to fit
6. Crossed fingers
7. Starting problems remain
8. Indie reads fault codes, they come up P2463 (DPF), P0252 (fuel pump) and P0087 (fuel rail pressure low).
9. Did some research on the net and I suspect fuel filter.
10. Got indie to fit fuel filter I purchased from Euro parts (I went to merc first and the Euro parts one is exactly the same brand and looked exactly the same).
11. Crossed fingers
12. Starting problems remain, but car drives much smoother and no longer sluggish. I also put in Wynns extreme clean and went on a long drive.
13. Went back to indie for a DPF flush with the Normfest and a motorway drive. Lot's of smoking, thought it worked but starting problems remain.

I only have starting problems in the morning, car is fine for the rest of the day but does crank for a bit, but starts in about 2 seconds.

Any suggestions, I don't have any money left this month to take to Mercedes.

Sounds like an air leak into the fuel lines before the high pressure pump.

id start with replacing all the O rings and fuel lines under the bonnet as it sounds like you may have air being drawn into the fuel overnight. fuel filter is another possible, but id say unlikely unless the car has been serviced recently and the filter changed, or servicing has been skimped on prior to your ownership. other than that, it may be a wise move to find a Mercedes independent specialist (indie) to look at the car for you. low fuel/rail pressure could be a whole multitude of different things, non as cheap as a proper diagnostics session.

Thank you both, I will try the O rings and failing that I will pay for proper diagnostics beyond reading fault codes.

Try parking overnight facing downhill.
If the car starts normally next morning, it is probably as has been said - furl line air leak.

What indy are you using? It sounds like he hasn't got a clue if he cannot advise you of the problems. Most people come on here for advice before going to the indy so they have some direction to point him in (me for instance!), but asking for advice after he has done work tends to point to cr@p work...

I think you're right about bad Indy, he kept saying fix this first then we will try something else. Another guy at the garage has realised that there is a hissing sound coming from the pipe that leads to the fuel filter, is this where the O rings should go. The hissing stops after about 45 seconds. It comes on when the key is turned to 3. And when the engine is started everytime and then cuts out.

Where in Surrey are you? I think we need to put you in touch with a pukka shop before anything else!

Three mechanics later

Sorry I didn't respond earlier to your offer of a good indy. I actually live in Purley, Croydon. My county is Surrey.

So I took it to a new mechanic who ran some tests and suspected the fuel rail pressure sensor. That didn't do the trick and he also replaced the seals, which still never worked.

The car is now with a new mechanic who now confirms, after running pressure tests on the injectors, that two injectors have gone.

Now I have been reading that my particular car model C250 2010 had problems with their injectors. I'm wondering if I have any chance of claiming from Mercedes Benz direct to do the work at no cost. A bit it's a cats chance in hell.

Can you buy injectors secondhand? The indy is asking for £700+ for parts and labour. I'm not sure if this is reasonable or not.

Thanks

Don't know your part of the world too well sorry..Craig can likely recommend someone. So they're quoting 700 for two injectors? Inclusive of labour. Seems a bit high, the injectors themselves are probably around 150-170 each? There are diesel injection specialists who will do them for less I'm sure. Indy labour rates vary but 60-70 per hour roughly means your guy is reckoning taking 5-6 hours to remove and replace two injectors....I'm being simplistic probably but seems high to me
I personally wouldn't go near used injectors - you can't know their history

If your in Surrey than have a trip to star motors in Reading, there a trusted forum garage with years of experience and loads of forum praise......

Stop wasting time and money and get booked in with Ian.....

Mercedes quote

I was looking into whether or not Mercedes would replace under the recall but they claim my car is not outstanding any recalls. Mercedes replaced one injector 3 years ago under warranty (with previous owner). Maybe that is why the car is coming up as not under any recalls.

Mercedes have said they will charge £880 for supply and fit incl VAT. He said it is a 2.5 hour job. Surely an indy would be a least 1/3 cheaper. I don't know. I don't have the money right now to fix as another emergency came up so it is going to have to wait anyway.

Reading is way too far from where I am. There is a really good garage I have been made aware of near me, but until I have the funds I can't do anything.

I will update with final outcome.

Thanks for all your time and much valued advice.

What are those codes as a description?

Are you sure you havent left anything disconnected?
Went to the dealer they said it could be injectors etc...So i said that the day before there was no errors or issues with the car only that sometimes when its cold rpm jumps up by 50 or100 rpm every 10 seconds, in summer never. Then they said that it could be the new valve that is defective guven the firs error, today i will put the old one in.

Thx for reply.

i put the old one in and there is no check engine light for now, has kickdown like before so the new valve was defective.

Everyone else that had issues like i have replaced the qcv on hp pump and it fixed the issue but i was soo lucky that i got the shitty one.
Thank you for help.
