E Class estate 220 AMG Line 2016
After 15 years of large SUVs doing 26 MPG I'm changing to a 2016 (dealer demo) E Class estate AMG Line this week.
Has anyone got one and what's the real MPG ?
Thanks, Fiona

Fuel economy is for those scared of V8s!

Hi and welcome Fiona, sadly can't give definitive answer as all my cars are petrol and relatively large capacity....

27.0mpg all the way to Newcastle and back last week in the CL John! I have discovered the mpg sweet spot is just to the north of 75mph.

It's an E220 Diesel estate

Expect around the 40mpg region ours (E220 CDi saloon) has averaged 37mpg from new, mainly shorter local runs. On a motorway run we can see 44-47mpg dependent on gradients and speeds.

Impressive!
I was very surprised. That was the average for that fill (measured), the motorway run back down the A1 was reporting 29.5-30mpg most of the way.

It's a year old with 10k Miles on it.
I took it on test drive for ten minutes or so around town and it was up to 40 MPG
Maybe it's improved over the first year ?

I'm hoping for that at least

Hi Fiona and welcome to the forum.

I get 40+ out of my 350CDi on a run :p
^ditto - I always get 40-45 on a run from my 350CDI so you should equal that but does depend on type of journey and your driving style.

I did find my fuel consumption improved over the first 40k miles so you probably have another 30k to do before it is run in and properly loosened up!

Thanks everyone.
For almost same price I could have got a brand new SE, but this year old demo is AMG Line and has all the extras. Hope I've made the right decision as everyone goes on about depreciation in the first year, it made sense to get the demo x

I would pick AMG Line over SE every day of the week

It will do, ours showed a definite improvement at the 10k mark. Should also be said that where we live is not conducive for fuel efficiency... country lanes generally.

Yes, the displacement difference versus the BMEP difference has a lot to it...

Hi Fiona and welcome to the forum.
My "E" is a 220cdi saloon and while it's difficult to be exact, it's averaged 41.2 over the past 2 years. On motorways when clear, 53 is the best I've seen and the worst was 21 in London.
Seem to remember estates don't quite match the mpg of saloons, but someone here will no doubt confirm.

As with all manufacturers what they say and what is truly achievable are two very different things.
There has been a lot in the press lately about the inflated economy claims made by manufacturers.
