Best thing to do is get it to a good Merc indy with Star diagnostics. Don't go to a main dealer.

There's s relay in the boot that can fail (at least there was on the Wheeler Dealers when they had an SLK).

You should be able to hear it when you operate the switch.

Hi. What year is it? If it has the 16 pin socket, I have an iCarsoft 980 which gives me a full live data readout of every component in the roof of our 2003 CLK convertible.

I see you're in the Borders but if you're really stuck, I'm just outside Edinburgh near Livingston and do free diagnostics for fellow forum members.

Hi All... I too have a roof problem!!
It's been about 3 years since I was last on here, but I'm back with a problem! ;-P

My 2006 SLK 200 (R171) roof is giving a bit of bother. It's the rear passenger side quarter-light which sometimes won't open.
It seems to work when the car is cool in the morning, but once the sun shines on it, not a hope!

I left it in with a local garage a fortnight ago and they put it on the computer saying it needs a new window motor.
But it's worked every time since they had a poke at it, so I'm wondering could it be a bad connection?
Or is there a temperature sensor? It's starting to play up again now in the lovely weather...
Any advice before I splash out on a new window motor kit?
(It closes every time without a problem!)

Thanks
Juls M

Might be a faulty relay/ bad connection by your description of heat effect - check the relay first which I believe will be in the boot somewhere ( not too familiar with the SLK but there are plenty folks on here can advise better)

I’ve got an SL with the same problem. Have you checked the window rubbers? Sometimes they stick to the glass.

Yes I've checked the rubber seals.
Thinking it's electrical or a relay... where in the boot would they be??

Relay is behind a panel on the right side of the boot
